Ryan Carter always hoped his life would turn around for the better. He has a job that he loves, and another one that he hates. Becoming a rent boy was never his life plan, but circumstances forced his hand. When his life falls apart, hunky firefighter Michael Callahan comes to his rescue. Ryan knows better than to believe someone as wonderful as Michael would ever want to be with someone who sells his body. But spending time with Michael gives Ryan something he’s never had before.
Hope.
For months, New York firefighter Michael Callahan has been thinking about the hot guy he rescued while working crowd control during a robbery standoff. His brother is very happy dating a man, and Michael wonders if he’s finally ready for a relationship of his own. An apartment fire brings him face to face with the young man who’s been haunting him for months. Their friendship starts strong, but will Ryan’s alternate life put out the flicker before it has a chance to flame?
REVIEW:
I’m pretty sure this is my favorite series from this author. I became a fan when I started reading her Assassin Shifter series…what seems years ago now. Sandrine’s books were my introduction to the m/m romance world. I’d read other m/m books, but mainly in the sci-fi/fantasy/spec fiction realm. Then I found the Assassin Shifters, and greedily devoured them…one after another. And there were a lot of them…
When the author came out with this Men of Manhattan series, I was intrigued. Something totally different for her. I read the first one and was hooked. I was so happy to see the news of this book and book seven which will be following very shortly. It had been over a year and a half since The Healing Man, book five, and I was frankly nervous. Would I remember who everyone was? There wasn’t time to re-read the first five books, and honestly, I didn’t need to. The characters popped right back into my head as I read along. I would recommend you read the entire series and in order to get the most enjoyment out of the story though!
So…the story. We’re back with our familiar characters and this time we’re focusing on Ryan, who took Casper’s place as the receptionist at the Hawke Agency when Casper was promoted (I think during book five, but I could be wrong.) This time we learn much more about Ryan. Not only is he a receptionist by day, but he is also a rent-boy by night. He is the son of a South Carolina Congressman, but has been disowned for being gay.
It is also the story of Michael Callahan, the hot fireman brother of Tiernan Callahan, the hot cop, who was the subject of the story we read in book five. Michael has always dated women, but he isn’t averse to pursuing something with a man. Especially if the man is the cute kid he saw outside a deli recently….
Can the rent-boy and the fireman find common ground? Do they have time…with a serial killer killing the rent-boys in town?
I recommend this book, and the entire series. I really like them all, and can’t wait for the next one to arrive in my in-bin!
