REVIEW:
Two of my favorite genres are lesbian erotica & BDSM. Show me a book with the promise of both, and I’m all over it! I dove into this story with high hopes and excited to discover a new to me author.
The story starts with an ‘instant messaging’ conversation between Alena and her friend. Their friendly banter involved scat and dick pics then turned to the more serious topic of Alena wanting to find a Mistress.
Alena signs on to Kinklife and looks up a profile based on her friend’s advice. More instant messages are exchanged, this time between Alena and a potential domme, Raven.
Alena fills in the necessary papers, her likes, dislikes and financial position, and a date is set up. Alena states she’s not really into pain, but likes the idea of being spanked. Raven asks if she’s ever been spanked. Alena states never, not even by a parent. This confused me a little as later in the story Alena thinks back to how cherished she felt when her school friend, Victoria, had spanked her. I guess that didn’t count? But I digress.
After the date/spanking, miscommunication between the heroines occurs which is the driving conflict of the story -miscommunication. A broad generalization is made that gave me pause – “Friends? Dommes and subs weren’t friends, at least not usually.”
And then, because they couldn’t sort their own stuff out like mature women, more instant messaging occurs. Alena’s well-meaning friend, contacts Raven… you guessed it via IM, and after some back and forth messaging Raven realizes the error of her ways and damage control ensues.
Besides the first spanking, and another of domestic discipline, there is no intimate contact between the couple, if there was any sex it sure as heck wasn’t on page.
I liked that these two characters didn’t fit the perfect mold, as in the real world things don’t always go as well as hoped. Unfortunately, it’s never revealed how these two overcame any obstacles. I think a great opportunity to expand on such was missed in this instance.
True to the author’s afterword, what became of these two is anyone’s guess. I quote – “Raven makes rookie mistakes and Alena makes even more. Their story is over before it’s properly begun.”
The story is listed as 100 pages but given the vast amount of dialogue told via instant messages, it’s a relatively quick read.
