BLURB:
Everyone at Jim Irving’s garage is gung ho about Wrench Wars, a new reality show featuring mechanics. Everyone, that is, except talented mechanic Chandler Scott, the sole employee who has refused to sign the contract. The rest of the mechanics are pressuring him too, because without Chandler—and his volatile interactions with his boss—no one’s getting on the show.
Chandler’s one ally is Jim’s son, Mark, who’s being forced to work for his dad until he pays down his student loans or finds a better job—and who’s been Chandler’s secret lover for a while.
Then a playful tryst in the garage blows up in their faces, giving the network ammo to blackmail Chandler by threatening to out Mark to his father. Now Chandler is backed into a corner, and Mark needs to decide how far he’s willing to go to protect the man who’s been sharing his bed… and may have stolen his heart.
REVIEW:
So, my only complaint which I am just going to get out of the way now is the fact that I wish so much that this was longer. In my mind I am fantasizing about how Chandler and Mark’s initially hooked up. I envision them dancing around each other until one of them gives into the attraction that is so electric between them. I would have loved to read their very first hookup. Other than that this was a really great story.
Chandler is explosive, hot tempered, and passionate. His feelings for Mark are so obvious very early on in the story. The sacrifices he’s made paint a very clear picture of where he’d like to see this relationship go.
Mark is a sweet, mild mannered peace keeper. His brain is stuck in the “friends with benefits” box so he never allows himself to envision him and Chandler as being anything else.
Both men are stuck in a hostile working environment which became even more so with the addition of cameras and a production team.
Machinations galore in this novella, lots of scheming and betrayal hurt both men but it also pushes them together and opens their eyes.
This was an awesome little story. I really liked the plot and I’ve been a fan of this author for awhile now. I can’t wait to read the other stories in this series. Recommend.
