KAT’S REVIEW:
Cute little story about first love but falls a bit short with me.
Chaos & Hype is the story of two young and very talented hip/hop dancers that are chosen by audition to be the theme park’s newest addition. They will be performing together daily and creating their own choreography. Both are extremely attracted to each other the moment that they lay eyes on each other and are sure it will end in disaster if they act on those magnetic feelings. But chemistry and hormones will override logic when it is powerful enough. This book is how both Skylar and Ryan progress with those feelings and what happens when Ryan returns home to Australia.
Although it was a cute little story and had a new twist, theme-park hip/hop dancers, I never quite “connected” with it. I liked both boys and wanted the best for them but I think it was the way it was written that didn’t allow me the connection. At times I felt like I was reading a diary. Actually that is what I thought this was at first and then the characters started conversations and I was confused. It was more like I was being told their story than connecting and being brought into it, if that makes sense. It wasn’t that I didn’t like the story premise or the characters but more that I couldn’t get over the way it was being told.
Chaos & Hype was a sweet, very little angst, tale of first love and what a person will do to keep what they want and need. I gave this 3 stars because of how the choppiness of the writing caused the disconnection from the characters for me.

AMBER’S REVIEW:
So, I loved the idea of hip hop dancers falling in love. I was a huge fan of “So You Think You Can Dance” so I can totally picture and fantasize in my mind about the whole scenario. It left me giddy with all the possibilities. Unfortunately this story did not leave me giddy at all. But before I get to my issues with this story I will discuss what I did like. I appreciated Ryan & Skylar’s innocence, even though they weren’t the most complex characters I appreciated how sweet they were together. It wasn’t the most believable love story but it was sweet.
I was not a fan of how this was written at all. It was very much paced step by step. First I did this, and then we did this….over and over again. And usually I don’t have any problems with first person narrative but the way this one was written didn’t flow smoothly. It read very amateurish and it totally threw me. I couldn’t get into it because it was impossible for me to get lost in the story. The characters were very 1 dimensional so much so they could actually be interchangeable and you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference between the two. There was no real build up to the relationship. It was very cutesy and flirtish then BAM, instalove. I would have loved there to be some smolder or intense chemistry to make the instalove more believable but none of that was there. I want to stress that I do not think this author is a bad writer it’s just in my personal opinion this story was written in a way that I did not find appealing. Again, my opinion.
A quick recap, Skylar and Ryan both were given an amazing opportunity to be partnered in a hip hop dance attraction at a local theme park. Skylar being from the area is familiar with the park but Ryan, an Australian transplant is new to the area. Both boys/men are attracted to each other and very quickly start a relationship that turns into instalove.
Ryan, being on a temp Visa knows he will need to go back to Australia soon so you can imagine the hurdles these two will have to face to stay together.
This had a cheesy, super sugary sweet HEA that I think a lot of readers will appreciate.
Again, these are just my thoughts and I seem to be going against the norm as far as reviews are concerned.
