BLURB:
Mason Leery is a bookworm and he thinks he might just be able to get through life simply by reading about it instead of living it.
Until he meets Shane Beaumont. Shane is the opposite of Mason in every way, he’s beautiful, athletic, and lives his life to the fullest.
Sparks fly when the polar opposites come together, but it will be up to the bookworm to shut down his e-reader and go after the beauty if he wants to love someone outside the pages of a book.
REVIEW:
This week for Flashback Friday, I’m bringing you a review on a cute little book that I really enjoyed. I owe someone a thanks, but I really had to scratch my head to figure out who that someone actually is! Someone posted something about this book back in March, and I clicked on my Kindle Unlimited button and downloaded it. Well, things came up, and the book set on my Kindle for three whole months before I decided to pick it up and give it a read in between some longer books. Now having looked at Goodreads, I see who recommended the book. Thanks James!
I can’t believe I waited so long. I loved this book. It is written partially in first person narrative, but the author also practices “breaking the fourth wall.” Now if you haven’t heard the term, and honestly I had to Google it, what it means is the main character, Mason, spends a lot of the book talking to the reader. Particularly in the beginning of the book, which hooked me. Mason is described as 5’5”, 122 pounds, a librarian, and a wearer of cardigan sweaters. I’m not sure if it was the description, or the voice that did it for me. All I could picture when I thought of Mason, was a friend lost to that darned disease many years ago, who would have matched the description almost exactly, except we were bankers, not librarians! I loved it. I really got Mason’s voice and the character was endearing.
Mason lives with his grandmother, a Harley riding very butch lesbian, and his life revolves around reading gay fiction. Really, really, bad gay fiction. I’m happy to say that I’m not going to have to read and review any of the books he read in the story, as they all had very lurid names and very strange storylines!
When Mason is in the park one day, a gorgeous runner trips over his outstretched feet, his shorts end up coming down and when he bends over to pull them up, he accidentally shows his naked…jock strap surrounded…butt, and even a sneak peek at a hidden treasure. Mason is tongue tied and falls all over himself. Seriously…you are lying if you tell me you wouldn’t be if it happened to you!
The hottie is Shane and he leaves right after the whole butt incident…but he’s soon back. Before anything else can happen though, they need to get by Mason’s Gran and Mason’s best friend Twyla.
An enjoyable, light, fast, and very funny read. I highly recommend it!
