High school English teacher Skyler Foxe swears he’s done being an amateur sleuth. Instead, he’d rather concentrate on his career as a teacher and on his hot boyfriend and head football coach Keith Fletcher, who is busy with football practice and an interesting new player that puts Keith in the spotlight for a change. But Skyler encounters a few homegrown surprises of his own, not the least of which is the unwelcome appearance of one of Keith’s old flames. What does HE want? And then Skyler is confronted with two shocking bits of news in his own backyard that makes him rethink his own future plans, whatever those are. But all that gets put aside when a murder occurs in plain sight at an outdoor concert. Skyler, his Scooby Gang, and even Keith join in to investigate a murder that’s far too close to home.
REVIEW:
Holy Hannah!! I love me some Skyler Foxe!! I just love the trouble that he seems to keep getting himself into. This episode for Skyler shows some growth on his part and yet…it also shows how trauma from years prior still effect him.
Skyler has been working a the Lincoln Museum this summer as he’s in need of work for the summer, a place that he’s worked since he was a young teen. This place has helped Skyler during his youth and the man who has run it, Lester has been a father figure for him. Not only helping him get a job, but also as Lester is a former teacher and knowing that that is the same profession that Skyler wants to do. I have to say that I really enjoyed seeing Skyler doing other things, besides just teaching and getting into hijinks. Granted…Skyler getting into hijinks is part of his charm…you just can’t help yourself from liking him and almost wanting to smack him sometimes.
Keith…Skyler’s boyfriend and fellow teacher is getting some major action as well. Keith signed up a female football player and there is/might be some backlash happening. However, that not the biggest thing to hit poor Keith…an ex that is a Skyler clone is trying to start some serious trouble is walking around causing…well trouble. I like that no matter what…Keith is a very dependable guy…except when it comes to taking a out issues happening in his personal life…as Skyler finds out.
I have to say that the murder/mystery happening in this story was a good one. You were given clues and yet…I like the misdirection that was thrown your way. I kinda figured it out early…because I’m that OCD kinda Girl and I have to figure it out early and be right, of course. I will say that the way the author kept the reader in suspense…wonderful. I think that the author keeps getting better and better and Skyler keeps getting better and better.
I have to say that I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE the SFC!! These guys are just so wonderful and are so willing to jump into whatever crazy Skyler seems to get into. I love each one of these guys and I absolutely LOVE how they stand by each other. I love that they are growing up and finding really good stable relationships. It’s nice to see characters that you’ve “known” for a while and see them evolving as characters. I think that’s why I’m so hot on series, I don’t think that each book as to be about the same MC’s, but I do like to see how they are faring after their HEA.
I will say that the author continues to bring such amazing real life issues to the pages of her stories. The teenage characters all act like teens and the things that they are going through…the same the world over and portrayed very well. I really enjoyed reading the scenarios that the teens are going through and how they deal with them.
This book was a great addition to the Skyler Foxe Mysteries and worth reading to enjoy the ongoing shenanigans of Skyler and the Gang!! I will say….The Cliffhanger….Really!?!?!
