LENGTH: 59 pages

BLURB: Families, Zeke knows, are complicated… and shapeshifter families are a whole other ball of catnip. Ten months ago, Zeke went off the Schuyler clan radar, determined to live a painless life of luxury as a housecat. It was a fantastic decision: his human, Toby, feeds him, cuddles him, and loves him with all the simple devotion he could ever want. Sure, he sometimes feels the desire to know Toby on a real, human basis, but it’s squashed by terror and inertia.

But Zeke isn’t the only one with a complicated family. A break-in heralds the end of Zeke’s fantasy life and throws him headlong into a new drama. Toby’s family is from the sea, where conflict is resolved a little differently. Zeke will have to use all his feline cunning to get him and Toby out of this mess safely—and both men will have to confront their fears, their families, and their future.

A story from the Dreamspinner Press 2016 Daily Dose package “A Walk on the Wild Side.”

REVIEW:

This was an…odd story. Not odd in a bad way, but odd in an…odd way. There’s the shifter who’s a domesticated house cat and another who’s an otter. Otter. Those cute little water animals I always managed to confuse with beavers. Well, there seems to be some sort of family conflict with Toby’s otter clan with another…otter clan? I read this book TWICE and was STILL perplexed at the end of it.

I will say that this author has quite an imagination and definitely stepped outside of the box with this. I will definitely give them props for that. I mean, they took something that could’ve been a run of the mill shifter story and turned it into something unique. And it is UNIQUE.

I liked the story because it’s so out there. It’s strange, kooky, quirky. All of those things that I like but it still left me with a ‘what did I just read’ sensation after I finished it the second time. This is by far the strangest shifter story that ever I’ve read from this genre but I liked it. Cat, Otter and all.
