TITLE: Love Unmasked
SERIES: 2016 Daily Dose – A Walk on the Wild Side
AUTHOR: Dale Cameron Lowry
PUBLISHER: Dreamspinner Press
LENGTH: 28 pages
RELEASE DATE: June 1, 2016
BLURB:
Aaron Loreto can’t lay claim to being anything as sexy as a werewolf or bearman. Once in a blue moon, he turns into a raccoon. With the predatory members of the shifter community looking down at him like he does actually spend his days rummaging through the trash, he prefers to keep his condition private.
When he meets Philip MacRory, Aaron falls head over heels. Philip is hot, sweet, and open-minded about shifters. Given his past experiences, Aaron’s still terrified to come out… until a night of passion with Philip shows that Aaron’s not the only one keeping secrets.
REVIEW:
I’ll flat out admit that I was extremely hesitant to take one of these stories because it is way outside my reading comfort box. But I saw that Dale Cameron Lowry had penned one and I have loved all his short stories I have read so far so I said I would try. I am so glad that I did.
Aaron Loreto is more than a bit shy about his status as a raccoon shifter, a really rare type in the shifting community. He has been scorned and dropped because of it. Plus he never knows where or what will trigger it. Luckily he does get some pre-warning signs but that is of little comfort when he is doomed to an existence alone. No one wants a lowly raccoon shifter for a mate. When he meets the extremely good-looking Philip MacRory he is entranced at their first meeting but he is very reluctant to share his situation after his experiences in the past. But after the men get to know each other and explore their attraction they each learn some new secrets. Love Unmasked is their story of meeting, getting to know each other and learning to work with each of their secrets.
As I stated, I am not a typical reader of paranormal shifter books but these guys made you like them. They were both sweet, a bit shy and totally adorable. They had you rooting for them from the very start. The only thing I could fault was it was over too quickly…but that is the problem with most short stories for me…I start to fall for the story and it is over. This short story could easily be the pre-story for a book though. All in all, though this didn’t convert me to a new genre I really did enjoy this sweet, short story. I hope that you do too.
