AUTHOR: Parker Foye
PUBLISHER: Dreamspinner Press
LENGTH: 45 Pages
BLURB:
After a successful career as Illustrious Ruckus, three-time winner of the British Open, James Kirby has hung up his saddle. His experience as a horse in the eventing world doesn’t exactly translate to two legs, and he’s struggling to move on. James’s quiet days at the family farm with his sister, Matilda, are interrupted by Archie Ievins, a sports journalist visiting to interview Matilda and snap a few photos of Illustrious Ruckus. Archie quickly endears himself to the family and to “Ruckus,” and James falls head over hooves—only to be brought up short when his ex-boyfriend threatens to expose James’s secret. How can James start something new when he has four legs threatening to come out of the closet?
REVIEW:
James and his sister, Tilly, have just retired from the eventing world and while Tilly has a plan for going forward with her life, James is left feeling confused and directionless. He’s been spending his days helping out at his sister’s farm and running the trails in his horse form with his niece riding along. But that all changes with the appearance of journalist, Archie Ievens. While James may still be clueless career wise, he suddenly has something to focus his attention on.
I really liked this short story. The author did a great job of getting me interested in these men and their blossoming relationship. The interactions between them were full of playful banter and witty comments, which kept me grinning and wanting more.
There aren’t any fully fleshed out sex scenes, but there are a few sexy encounters to show that these guys have got what it takes in the chemistry department. I must admit that a lack of drawn out sex scenes tends to be my preference in stories of this length.
The threat of the blackmailing ex boyfriend was well done. A background concern that was solved fairly easily but lent some necessary tension to an otherwise conflict free story. The twist involved in the “I’m a horse shifter” reveal was also an interesting idea.
Definitely a story that’s worth checking out.

Donna, thank you for your helpful review. This is a new author for me and I will investigate what else they have written. I have a few favourite horse shifter stories and would love to read this one/add it to my collection 🙂
I’ve never read a book on a horse shifter… This one sounds interesting enough to be added to my TBR list
Horse shifters are a quite unique. I haven’t come across a book with one before. I think this will be interesting. Thank you for the review!
