LENGTH: 56 pages
RELEASE DATE: March 18, 2016
BLURB:
When Pirou calls his brother Jag to the Old Tavern Club to help with a pair of lynx shifters, Jag is happy to help. Rescuing and rehabilitating big cats is his job, and it makes him the perfect person to take on the pair that Pirou has rescued from a circus.
Mates Hill and Cather were about to be put down by the circus that owned them as they refused to perform after their Master, tiger shifter Darri, was killed in an accident during his last performance. The pair have been beaten, mistreated, and are near death’s door, so it’s going to take all of Jag’s resources to help these two kitties find themselves again.
Along the way, Jag just might find his heart in peril, too.
REVIEW:
This was an easy little read with less drama/angst than I was originally expecting. Hill and Cather have had a rough time of it between losing their previous Master and almost dying at the hands of the people that owned the circus they worked for. When Jag first meets them, he knows he’ll have his hands full trying to help them heal so they can move on but what starts out as just another job quickly turns into something more.
As I said, this is an easy read, which was fine, but I was just kind of expecting a little something more with this one. I love my shifter stories, I really do, but this one was a little too easy in some ways, though some of the reason for that was talked about late in the story. Hill and Cather have very different personalities and it was nice to see how they could balance each other out. I say ‘could’ because there were more interactions with Jag than there was between Hill and Cather on their own. I didn’t mind that as much, as he was the one trying to get them back on an even keel, but it would’ve been nice to see more between the kitties other than encouragement.
This wasn’t a bad read but it wasn’t spectacular either. I’m interested enough to go back and read the first two books in the series but it also gives you enough information to work well as a standalone if you don’t want to read the first stories at all. I read this one pretty quickly and it was a good way to pass some time but I don’t think I’ll be in a hurry to re-read it all that soon, either.
