When the only way to win is to hide who you are, how far are you prepared to go? Reuben “Angel” Jacobs is one step away from giving it all up. Losing a place in the live finals of Sing UK almost kills him. He has no choice but to go home and work for the family business, even though it means giving up his dreams and proving his old bullies right. Corey Dixon is a rocker at heart. Being on the spectrum means that making sense of other people’s ‘normal’ is hard in itself, let alone in the chaos of a high-powered competition. Singing is his safe space, the only way he can think through the noise in his head. Messing up his audition for the live shows means his journey is over, and it’s the worst day of his life. The judges throw them a lifeline and create a boy band from the near-miss hopefuls. Angel, Corey, and three others are put together in a room and offered the chance to sing as a group. Agreeing to become part of the new band means Corey has to hide who he is and what Angel has come to mean to him. Is winning worth the price Corey and Angel have to pay?

We Are The Champions – Queen
Five solo artists pushed together to form a new boy band. What could possibly go wrong?
There is something about Queen, and certainly something about the kinds of anthems they produced and this is certainly one of the biggest. This song suits the fact that Wildcard is a boy band, and also that the audience and voters will probably know all the words back to front and sideways.
This is Corey’s week, but he’s backed up solidly by Scott (who can be a bit shouty) and Toby. Of course, it would have been easy to have Angel front and center, you know the one gay guy in the band, but no, this was definitely all Corey.
Queen have a way of writing songs that traveled the world and everyone seems to know at least one Queen song.
This week had been epic. With Queen as the theme, and covering the ever popular We Are The Champions, Wildcard made it to seventh place out of a possible ten, which meant for the first time in the competition they weren’t in the bottom two and having to do the sing off.
Angel felt like they’d won the whole thing he was that happy not to have to go through the last-two judging they’d done so far in the competition. The whole band hugged backstage, and sue him if he held onto Corey a little longer than the rest. Corey seemed to be getting used to the way that Toby and Scott hugged him, all gripping and back slapping, and the way DK just held him quickly. He’d begun by tolerating the touches, but now it appeared they were allowed to hold him, albeit briefly.

Angel glanced down the listings. Mandated counseling, voice work, group bonding, team building, more voice work, dance lessons, some more dance lessons, two interviews per individual, and two for the group as a whole. Not to mention something called “future shoot,” which meant absolutely nothing to him. “That has to be for the whole ten weeks, right? For everyone.”
Corey just pointed to the title. “Schedule for ‘insert band name here,’” he read aloud. “This is the schedule for the next five days.”
Silence. Every one of them absolutely silent.
Angel read down… more details of weeks all the way up to Week 10. The first weeks would be decided by public vote, the bottom two acts having to go head-to-head with a “save song” of their choice. Then the judges would decide which act would go home, which Angel knew from watching the show before was less about rewarding talent and more about political maneuvering to protect their own acts.
The three judges were Noel Griffiths, mentor for the boys; Jim “Bruiser” Bryant for the girls; and for the groups the UK’s favorite soap-star sweetheart, Brianna McCulloch.
A full list of the weeks and the song types was there. Week 1 was blank, but Week 2 was Disney Week.
Disney Week? Angel had never heard of a Disney Week in a singing competition.
“Disney?” Scott said loudly. “Jeez, Disney?”
Clearly it wasn’t just Angel who thought that was weird.
Week 3 was Queen Week, 4 was Diva Week, and the weeks went on: Film, Show Tunes, Heartbreak, so many different styles, ending at Week 9, Rock Week. And then, in the final, it was Judges’ Choice, and the last two finalists would sing the winner’s song. That week was all about the general public voting for who they wanted.
“Film Week we should do a-ha, y’know, The Living Daylights,” DK said.
“Or that chick song from Titanic.”
“Fuck off are we doing that.”
“And Rock Week, Kasabian.”
“No, 30 Seconds to Mars.”
“Green Day.”
Angel let the words wash over him as Scott, Toby, and DK threw out ideas. Corey was quiet, thoughtful, but by the look of it, listening to what everyone else was saying.
“Fuck,” Scott said loudly. He picked up a pen from the side and crossed through where it read “insert band name here” and carefully wrote “Wildcard.”
That moment seemed vitally important, something changing between them, a step in a new direction.
Then Scott leaned closer to the paper and added something else in smaller writing.
Corey peered closely and laughed.
In neat capitals were three words. Well, two words and a year.
“Fucking Winners, 2016.”
My goal is to write stories with a heart of romance, a troubled road to reach happiness, and most importantly, that hint of a happily ever after.
I’ve has been writing since age six, when I was made to stay in at lunchtime for an infraction involving cookies and the mixing bowl. You can’t tell a six year old not to lick the bowl!
I was told to write a story and two sides of paper about a trapped princess later, a lover of writing was born. As an avid reader myself, I can be found reading anything from thrillers to sci-fi to horror.
However, my first real true love will always be the world of romance. I love my cowboys, bodyguards, firemen and billionaires (to name a few) and love to write dramatic and romantic stories of love and passion between these men. (Yum) With over 90 titles to my name and counting, I am the author of the award winning book, The Christmas Throwaway, which was All Romance Ebooks best selling title of 2010.
I’m also known for the Texas series charting the lives of Riley and Jack, and the Sanctuary series following the work of the Sanctuary Foundation and the people it protects.
I’m always so thrilled to hear from readers, bloggers and other writers. Please contact via the following links below: * * * * *

Sounds like a great read. Love books about musicians, especially about musicians breaking stereotypes. Will be my first book with this author.
