BLURB:
Jonas needs Tate. He just doesn’t know it yet.
Or at least, he doesn’t want to admit it. Because there is no way Jonas Ashcroft is gay. He’s a straight, carefree frat boy player, just like any good son of a conservative state senator. If only his struggle to convince everyone—especially himself—didn’t leave him so miserable. No matter how many girls or bottles he drowns himself in, Jonas can neither escape nor accept who he is.
Enter Tate. He’s smart, confident, and instantly sees right through Jonas’s surly exterior. Sure, he’s done things in life he’s not proud of, but he knows who he is and what he wants. And what he wants is Jonas. As their easy friendship intensifies into something more, Tate introduces Jonas to a life he’s never known. One filled with acceptance and sex and a love that terrifies and excites them both.
But some inner demons refuse to be shaken off so easily. When Jonas’s old life barges in, he faces a shattering choice, one that could destroy everything he and Tate have fought so hard for. Sometimes love just isn’t enough—and sometimes it’s exactly what you need.
REVIEW:
Looking back on the books I’ve read by this author I was a little surprised to find I’ve only read 1 other book, which I do remember and liked quite a bit. So this author is still a new to me story teller.
This blurb really caught my attention when I read it. I really appreciate stories where the characters come into their own and in doing so find love. This story however was a little all over the place for me. One moment the characters decide not to have sex, then the next scene they’re having sex. One moment a character is not gay, and then the next moment he is. One moment the characters aren’t speaking, then the next they’re swallowing each other’s tongues. Usually I enjoy that dynamic but something was off with this one. I also noticed this book drug on and on when I realized how long it was. Honestly, I think it could have been cut down significantly and still packed a punch. I also found myself struggling with my feelings towards the characters. Even Tate who is everything you’d want in a strong MC got on my nerves a bit.
Jonas and Tate meet at Jonas’s Aunt’s thrift shop where Jonas was sent to work after a college prank turned bad. Jonas is totally out of his element in this new town. Coming from a rich political family he finds himself completely out of his depth. Tate and Jonas are attracted to each other pretty early on but Jonas can’t be gay. His father, a political shark, would never allow it.
Like I mentioned this is a coming into your own type of story. I need to mention that I didn’t hate this story, I just didn’t love it. The writing is really good, solid plot just a little too long.
I’m curious to see how Jonas and Tate are in book 2…should be interesting…
