Danny Avers is a teacher in small town Colorado. Back in the day, before high-speed Internet, social media, smartphones, or streaming anything, Danny’s just trying to live down his wild teenage years and carry on the only way he knows how: one day at a time. The last person he expects to see back in town is Harlan Quinn, his old best friend and former consummate bad boy. And when he finds out Quinn is the new sheriff and his new neighbor, it’s even more of a shock.
Quinn knows there’s more to his old hometown than meets the eye. There’s more to Danny than old memories and quiet living too. But as in the past, stirring things up is Quinn’s specialty, and he sets out to do that, in more ways than one, pushing Danny to admit there’s more to life and that their old town just might manage to be new again. That’s if old town thinking doesn’t get them both killed.

Review:
Danny and Quinn are former lovers who meet up again after a long time apart. In their youth they were wild and a little crazy and both feel like they have a lot to live down. Tragedy dogged them as kids, and now they are doing their best to make up for their misspent teens.
But Danny is barely living. He spends all his time alone, only his job as a teacher brightens his days and when Quinn comes back to town, as a cop of all things, it throws his world into a tailspin.
Both men are likable characters and I was really looking forward to getting to know them better, but they kept falling into bed every 10 pages or so and it started to get on my nerves.
Now, I like a smokin hot sex scene as much as the next girl and in fact, if the book I’m reading doesn’t have few, them I’m mighty disappointed.
However, I like to see some relationship building and conversations going on, because lets face it, falling into bed every time life gets hard (no pun intended) just doesn’t make for a really strong relationship.
And yes, I get that they knew each other before but for me, that’s almost more reason to take more time getting to know each other because time changes people and you should be wary of that, especially Danny, who has been hiding himself away since a tragic accident almost took his life.
The premise is interesting and it kind of annoyed me how the whole “investigation” part of the storyline kind of just got glossed over and basically used as nothing more than a catalyst for Danny and Quinn to fuck each other stupid all too often.
However, that all being said, I did enjoy the story. As I said, likable characters, good world building and excellent writing were enough to have me skimming over the frequent sex to finish the story and see Danny and Quinn get their happily ever after. After the hands that life dealt them, they sure deserved it.
There are those who will love this book because of the sex, and to them I say “fill your boots boys and girls!” I’m a fan of BA Tortuga and enjoyed quite a few of this authors stories and I plan to keep enjoying those to come.
