and One Time I Kissed Him First
When you realize you want to marry your best friend at age six, life should follow a pretty predictable path, right? Maybe not.
As a kid, Evan King thought Scott Sparrow was the most amazing person he’d ever met. At seventeen, his crush runs a little deeper, and nothing seems simple anymore. Scott is more interested in football and girls than playing superheroes, and Evan’s attention is focused on getting into art school. A late-night drunken kiss is something to be forgotten, not obsessed over for the next ten years.
When life suddenly brings them back together, it doesn’t take much for the flame Evan carried for Scott nearly all his life to come roaring back, and Evan discovers that life sometimes has a strange way of coming full circle.
REVIEW:
Oh my GOSH, I really loved these characters!! And not just Evan and Scott, the side characters were awesome too. Evan’s mom was amazing and Scott’s family blew me away with how awesome they were. Although I know that accepting families is not something that happens regularly it was nice to read a story that wasn’t full of hate and pain. This story was a true love story. From childhood to adulthood these men were absolutely perfect together, soul mates. They just had to go through some hurdles to realize it.
Evan and Scott have been best friends since they were little boys. Scott’s personality is more open and free while Evan’s more of an introvert. Despite this, however, these two fit together like puzzle pieces. Always having been close Evan realizes in his teenage years that what he feel s for Scott is a lot more than friendship. Scott, however, battles his attraction to the point of pushing Evan away.
Miscommunication and life push these two friends out of each other’s lives. But the feelings are still there for both men and so is the attraction. Deciding to stop fighting it both men give it a go but they don’t know if it’s too late….?
Like I said, I adored Evan and Scott. I did have some issues. I didn’t really understand Scott’s issue with coming out. He had an amazing supportive group of people around him so his internal battle was perplexing. I also didn’t really grasp why Evan “hated” Scott for so long. But those things didn’t take away from how really wonderful this story is.
When I say this is a love story, I really mean that, and it has a tremendous ending that will leave you smiling and warm and fuzzy.
Recommend.
