BLURB:
After finding his partner in bed with another man, Robert sees his relationship of fifteen years come to a painful end. A distinguished college professor, his whole life had been dedicated to his career and partner, but after his betrayal, Robert spends one year trying to mend his broken heart, too deep in his sadness to even continue his work in the field of nanorobotics.
Everything starts to change when he meets Matt, a twenty-six-year-old gardener, who at first sight has nothing in common with him. He’s the poster-boy for the masculine: tall, rugged and handsome, mixed with something else, a dash of sweetness and unpretentiousness that leaves Robert intrigued and wanting to know more. At the same time, Robert fears the stigma of their age difference and what people will say about him dating someone younger.
Nevertheless, they find themselves gravitating towards each other, navigating the entangled mess of each other’s lives. Robert’s fear is still alive, though: will he be able to mend his heart, let himself be happy again and trust another man?
WARNING: This book contains explicit scenes of consensual sex between men as well as some graphic language. It is intended for a mature, adult audience.
REVIEW:
I have been looking forward to reading a book by this author and was lucky enough to be to do the review. This may have been my first book by James Lee Hard but it won’t be my last.
Falling for Matt is a sweet story about a successful college professor and scientist, Robert Cox, who has been cheated on by his partner of 15 years. He is devastated by the betrayal and having a hard time pulling himself back together. The book starts up one year later, when he is finally pulling himself out of the hole he has been in with the help of his best friend Harry urging him back to the land of the living. Enter a gorgeous young gardener, Matt Rees, 13 years his junior, to come help erase the memories of his ex in his back yard. There is chemistry right from the start, egged on by Harry. Falling for Matt is the journey these men embark upon to see if Robert can learn to trust again and Matt can break loose of his past worries.
I really liked both Robert and Matt. They were easy to like because they were both great guys you just had to root for. The kind of guys that you want as friends, loyal, true to a fault and caring. They deserve the best. And they had several really caring friends. I really liked Brian, Matt’s roommate, and Mindy, Robert’s colleague and boss. It was nice to see side characters written in such a warm and caring way. But I fell instantly for Harry! Harry really, really cared about his best friend and only wanted him to be happy and to live his life again. You only hope that you are fortunate enough to have a friend like Harry in your life! Now Ted, Robert’s cheating ex, is just scum and a user! Robert is so lucky to be rid of him. And Joseph, his rival and college colleague, was despicable and vile! He deserves anything and everything that comes his way! I hated that weasel of a man.
This was a sweet and interesting book. I liked how you heard both men’s points of view and how they didn’t just fall for each other immediately and jump right into bed. That would have been completely out of character for both. They were cautious and worked on getting to know each other. They didn’t have a lot in common, at first, but they were well suited for a relationship with each other. I also like how well rounded all the characters were and how they supported the ones they cared for. I have absolutely no problem recommending this book and hope that you enjoyed like I did. I just hope that Harry gets his story because he deserves one.
