Love Bytes is happy to say Hi to author RJ Jones stopping by our blog today to show us an exclusive excerpt of her newest release “True Blue”.
RJ also brought along a giveaway for our readers!
Welcome RJ 🙂
Blurb:
When being true to yourself means denial is no longer an option.
On the heels of a tragedy, Brandon White shaved his hair, adorned his body with tattoos, and concentrated on his attraction to the opposite sex. Fifteen years later, Brandon is a protective son and a loyal and respected member of the San Francisco Fire Department, bedding anything in a skirt that promises not to stick around afterward.
When his past and present collide in his dreams—including his best friend and fellow fireman, Mason—Brandon knows things are never going to be the same again. He starts to recall that fateful day years before, and the long-forgotten feelings that preceded it. The most important thing he remembers—he’s not as straight as he’d thought.
With help, Brandon learns to accept who he was always meant to be. But when tragedy strikes again, Brandon must reconcile his past and present and deal with his grief if he is to ever be true, not only to himself, but to Mason as well.
**This can be read as a standalone, however it is best enjoyed after reading the first two stories as side characters play a major role.**

THE FOLLOWING afternoon, after we had finished giving our statements to Rick and Adam, we were all sitting at our local bar enjoying a beer.
I took a sip of my beer before asking, “So what’s the story with those two idiots from last night?”
“Just some ’phobes who like to think that because they’re breeders, they’re superior,” Gray said, his voice tight.
“One of them hit on me once and wasn’t happy when I turned him down,” Jet added.
“Closeted bigots,” I mused. I might have once been deep in the denial closet, but at least I wasn’t bigoted. “Takes all types, I guess.” I turned my attention to Kris, who had his arm resting on the back of Gray’s chair. “You ever get involved in the melee, Kris? I know you used to box.”
Kris glanced at Gray before turning back to me. “Only when I have to. I like my balls where they are.”
I raised an eyebrow.
“Gray would kill me if I left Jet alone. He fights better when he knows Jet’s safe. Doesn’t mean it’s easy for me to stand back while he fights, but I learned pretty quickly he can take care of himself.”
“I can fight as well, you know. I’ve done some of the same classes as my overbearing brother,” Jet huffed.
Gray patted his brother’s knee. “We know, but this way you won’t mess up your hair.”
“You’re an ass.”
“I am, yes.”
The twins bantered affectionately as Mason and Kris grinned behind their beers.
“You ever gone in the ring with Gray?” I asked Kris.
Kris looked to Mason, then Gray before answering, his gaze focused on his beer. “Yeah. Was put on my ass within a minute,” he mumbled.
I raised an eyebrow. “A whole minute?”
“He said ‘within a minute,’” Mason stated, trying not to laugh. “Ask him which part of the minute it was when his back hit the floor.”
I looked to Kris once more.
When he spoke, he muttered around his beer. “The first part.”
“Which part?” asked Mason, his voice louder than necessary.
“The first ten seconds, all right? Assholes.”
“Don’t listen to them, babe,” Gray told him before turning to Mason. “At least he had the balls to enter the ring with me.”
“Yeah, man. I’m not that stupid. I’ve seen you move. I’ll just beat you in other ways,” Mason added.
Gray bristled. “Hey! I won that race last night.”
Mason pursed his lips. “Pfft. Please.”
“Back up a minute. Mason, we all saw how you moved last night.” Jet grinned, fanning himself. “I’m not sure which is more deadly.”
Mason had the decency to blush, and when he looked at me, his eyes were dark and slightly hooded—probably at the memory of what we’d done afterward. I blushed too.
Jet picked up on the look immediately. “Ooh.” He rubbed his hands together. “Did you get a video?”
“No!” Mason and I said in unison.
“Damn.”
RJ Jones
RJ started as a reader and eventually made the progression to reviewing. It wasn’t until two men popped into her thoughts, insisting on telling her their story that she started to write. It started with one scene. A hot and dirty one in the shower.
RJ’s initial thought was if she could write their scene then they’d shut up and allow her to concentrate on other aspects of the day. That shower scene was 3000 words long and three hours of work. But they didn’t shut up. They told her their entire story and she didn’t sleep for days. Sometimes she couldn’t keep up with what they were telling her and she had to keep a notebook by the bed.
Whilst RJ was writing their story a side character decided he needed his story told too. Then other characters followed suit.
You see the problem? If RJ ever wants to sleep again then she needs to write.
RJ is a wife and a mother to two boys. Even her dog is a boy.
She is surrounded by males.
RJ writes emotionally charged, character driven romances. Her guys will always get their HEA, but it will never be easy.
