So last year, I embarked on a new adventure… self publishing. It was amazing. It was exciting. It was totally frickin’ cool, and the best part was having four of the best people ever holding my hand while I did it.
The Heartsville Crew are superstars and they made getting my book out so easy. It was such a great experience that I decided to give it another shot.
A couple of months ago, my rights reverted back to me on a story I wrote for Dreamspinner for their Make a Play Daily Dose. It was short–only 11,000 words or so–and maybe a little rough around the edges. When my rights came back, I had another look at it, and I remembered how much fun I had writing Nick and Blake and the crazy scheme their coach came up with to get them ready for Rio. Well, now Rio is only a few months away, and what better time to refresh and revamp the story of the synchro dive team?
In the end, the story was expanded by more than 50%, and I felt like these guys needed a little more affection, so up went the heat as well. I’m pleased with how it turned out and I hope you will be too, although I’ll admit the add-ons took me longer than I should have. I’d forgotten how easy it is to get lost in YouTube watching synchronized diving videos. Those guys are seriously impressive, and they make it look damn easy.
Riding the Board is set for re-release on June 7th, but is available now for pre-order through Amazon and All Romance eBooks. The best part is, the book is now only $0.99!
To give you a little taste, here’s a short excerpt:
Nick led as they walked to the front door and their hands brushed when they reached for the knob at the same time. Blake pulled back quickly, a jerk reaction at the contact. Nick shot him a look, one eyebrow raised, as he pulled the door open.
Blake hated that look.
The delivery boy couldn’t have been much older than sixteen, and Blake knew the moment he realized they were chained together. The fact that he and Nick were both half-naked didn’t help the situation. The kid’s eyes widened slightly and he stuttered as he relayed the total of their bill.
Nick grabbed a couple of crumpled twenties out of his pocket and handed them over to the guy, whose face had gone from pale and freckled to police beacon red.
“Sorry about the spectacle. You caught between rounds.” Before Blake could slam the door shut and avoid further mortification, Nick gestured toward him. “This one likes it kinky.”
The kid muttered something unintelligible, his face flaming impossibly redder before he turned quickly and practically sprinted back to his rusted out hatchback.
“What the fuck did you say that for?” Blake slammed the door and turned toward Nick. “Now he thinks we’re fucking.”
“What the hell do you care, Lucy? You know you really should consider loosening up. That stick you’ve got wedged up your ass is likely to become a permanent fixture if you’re not careful.”
“Fuck you, Freeman.”
“That’s the second time today you’ve offered. You’d better be careful or I’m going to take you up on it.”
To celebrate my first solo self-pubbing mission going live, I’m going to be doing a giveaway. Three people will be selected to receive advance reading copies of Riding the Board!
