Skylar is used to the way people think of him as frightening, mean, and dangerous. Snakes are not the most popular shifters around and the fact he grew up wild doesn’t help. He knows the way he’s chosen to live alone in the woods only makes things worse, but he didn’t think it meant people thought him capable of killing a couple of wolf puppies.
Determined to find the real monster who left them to die, Skylar calls up the only wolf he knows, a man he always wished would see him as more than a snake …
REVIEW:
Amidst a large amount of political turmoil he could care less about, Skylar wakes early one morning to find two wolf shifter pups abandoned on his property. He doesn’t know where they’ve come from or how they got there, especially in the middle of winter, but he certainly isn’t going to leave them out in the cold. Not knowing what’s going on, Skylar calls the one wolf he knows who might be able to help: Brady. Though they only met in college and Skylar is positive the other man hates him, he’ll do whatever he needs to if it will ensure the children are returned to their rightful home. When the truth comes about, about a lot of things, it changes Skylar’s world for the better but with so many people against him, will he get his happy ending?
This story was completely adorable! I loved Skylar; he’s looked down upon by other shifters for not only being a snake shifter but for also being one of the lost ones and yet he’s still gone through life with his head held high. I’m also totally willing to acknowledge that his interactions with the children were ridiculously endearing. Though I didn’t feel as though I got to know Brady as well as Skylar, what I did see I liked. It was obvious that he cared and would stick by Skylar in doing the right thing, regardless of the cost.
Though the story was on the shorter side, it felt nice and complete to me and the pacing was pretty spot on. Things were left on more of a happy for now finish but I still felt good with how things ended and, on the plus side, there is a sequel out and I’m hoping to see these characters again. This was just a cute, easy read with a dash of romance that left me feeling good and hopeful at the end. If you enjoy shifters and are looking for a quick pick me up, you might give this one a try.

I love to re-read this book whenever I feel the need for a quick, cute, feel good shifter romance. Spot on review, Sarina 🙂
[…] This was a great continuation of the previous book and I’m really hoping there will be more to come as the political issues aren’t anywhere near to being solved. Also, fans of the first book will be happy to know that you do get to catch up with Skylar and Brady and, while not a lot, seeing them did solidify the way things ended with them before. (I know I had a big stupid grin when I got to read about them.) I’m really enjoying this series so far and the wide variety of shifters makes for a unique reading experience. The stories are, so far, satisfying and easy to read which pretty much ensures that I’ll be coming back to them over and over again. You can find my review of the first book in the series, Backwoods Asylum, here. […]
