When it comes to love, is timing everything?
Tom doesn’t have time for a relationship – not now that his fingers are practically touching the promotion he’s spent years chasing. His weekdays are consumed by desperately fighting for his editor’s attention and his weekends are wasted alone with meals for one and his cat for company.
All Cole has ever wanted is to work on the farm he was raised on, but money is tighter than ever and he is forced to get a job in a bar to keep a roof over him and his auntie’s heads. Time is running out for the farm but he spends his days dreaming about a future he thinks he’ll never have.
After an unexpected collision at the village train station, their lives suddenly become connected when Cole clumsily spills his coffee on Tom and it sets into motion something greater. Tom is wary of listening to his heart and Cole is distracted by the threat of losing everything. Each possesses something the other desperately needs, but can they ignore bad timing to listen to their hearts?
REVIEW:
Is there ever the right timing for something new in your busy life? When you are young, already leery of relationships, and striving hard for that one big break in your career, the one that will make all your hard work pay off, you don’t think you have time for anything else. But you know what? You don’t always get a choice when it comes to timing. Things happen and you sometimes just have to go with the flow, no matter how challenging that “something (or someone)” is. Author Ashley John nailed this premise in spades with his newest, and in my opinion, best book yet, and that is saying a lot!
Timing is the story of how two young men meet, in awkward circumstances, and how that chance meeting completely changed their lives. Tom Pond is a workaholic newspaper writer. He just wants to finally achieve his goal; Entertainment Editor of the paper he works for. Cole Davison is truly a farmer boy through and through. But the farm needs more money to survive so he can keep it going and keep himself and his Auntie Belinda on their family farm. And Cole, being the sweet boy he is, goes out into the world to earn the money to keep them afloat. After literally running into each other the first time, Tom and Cole meet again and the chemistry is fueling their need to get to know the other better. Timing leads us through how timing can get in the way and the journey to make it right.
Not only did I get invested in the main characters, Tom and Cole, as they were wonderfully written and jumped off the page and into your heart, but, in addition, what I think really made this book shine was the skillfully written supporting characters. From the flamboyant and charismatic best friend of Tom’s, Ricky and his alter-ego drag queen Miss Kitty Litter, to Cole’s tough but jaded boss with a heart of gold, Rox, and finally Cole’s beloved Auntie Belinda. They helped bring this book alive and made you keep rooting for the timing to work out for these obviously in-love men.
If you are a sucker for a romantic love story with a few struggles and people who seem so genuine and real, this book is for you. It is tender and lovely. I still have a bit of a struggle with some of the English phrases but I’m learning new customs all the time. Who knew that the English eat Baked Beans with their Full English Breakfast? Not this girl but I am still learning. Wonderfully written book that is a standalone but I am hoping, fingers crossed, that Ashley John will be bringing us the further adventures of Miss Kitty Litter and “her” HEA too! Must read book!!!
