Jamie Hardin has had his fair share of ups and downs. He’s been widowed once and divorced once–with extreme prejudice. Due to the machinations of his ex-wife, Jamie’s son Rio ran away at sixteen. Two years later, Jamie has the chance to reconnect with Rio and so he moves himself and his five-year-old adopted son to a new town in a new state to start over. The welcome he receives from Rio is everything Jamie had wanted; what he wasn’t prepared for was Jed Matranga. From the moment they meet, a simple handshake is all it takes to light a fire Jamie has no idea how to handle. Jed Matranga, single werewolf, has just met his mate. In addition to being gentle, caring and clever, Jamie’s emotionally wounded. He’s also not gay. For Jed it will be the challenge of a lifetime to prove to Jamie that trusting his own judgment is the right thing to do, and where relationships are concerned, it’s feelings and not gender that matters.
REVIEW:
Amended Soul is about the reconnection of a father, Jamie Hardin and his son Rio. Jamie hasn’t had an easy time of it lately, he learnt the reason his then 16-year-old son Rio ran away from home was because his ex-wife abused him horrifically. Now, Jamie is divorced with sole custody of his 5-year-old adopted son Jack whilst his ex is in prison. Jamie is excited about hopefully being able to reconnect with Rio since he seems to be so receptive.
One of the first people Jamie meets when he and Jack arrive at Rio’s place is Rio’s new brother-in-law Jed Matranga. Jed’s brother Mick is Rio’s mate and the Alpha of their pack. From the first handshake the electricity between Jed and Jamie is incredibly strong and very unsettling considering the fact that Jamie isn’t gay or even bi! As Jed is doing the renovations to Jamie’s house, attached office and work space it makes it easier for Jamie and Jed get a lot better acquainted.
Not only does Jamie have the overwhelming guilt he stills feels over what happened to Rio to cope with he has to start his optometry business, get Jack settled in a new school he has to make every attempt to get past the “gay” stigma attached to being with Jed. Luckily for Jed he knows that Jamie is just as attracted to him as he is to Jamie. The only thing they have to work on is the fact that Jamie can’t get past worrying what other people will say about him being with another man.
When Jamie learns exactly what happened to Rio after he ran away from home, the fact that he was abducted by a rogue werewolf, kept in a cage, continually raped and mistreated, he was also changed against his will. Rio has long since come to terms with the fact that he is now a werewolf, it certainly doesn’t hurt that he was lucky enough to find his mate. Rio has been seeing a therapist to deal with what happened to him but Jamie has just been letting the stress build up until he has a breakdown. When Jamie has his meltdown he allows Jed to convinced to him see Rio’s therapist as well.
So, not only does Jamie have the guilt over what happened to Rio to deal with and let go of, he has to heal his heart and soul so that he can get to know his mate as his mate. realise that the love they feel for each other is just as real as what he felt for his first wife. Amended Soul isn’t a fluffy love story it’s a gritty, sometimes dark, emotionally wrenching love story. I truly don’t know what I’d do if my partner abused my child from my previous relationship. This story is just a little peek into the lives of a family that has unfortunately had this happen and what it takes for them to deal with it and become a family unit again. I definitely recommend this book to all paranormal, m/m romance story’s.
