There’s lots of rum poolside for relaxing and a room with a mirror on the ceiling for passion. Hot karaoke nights, cold beer, and new friends.
Their new friends Orfeo and Max, and Max’s sister Talisha, confide a troubling secret, and, of course, Alex and Hunter want to help. As a hurricane bears down on them, a dead body surfaces, and then a purple backpack loaded with stolen jewels. The jewel thief Derek Boyd wants his boyfriend and his stolen jewels back at any cost and a Russian mobster wants his wife’s jewels returned…
Alex and Hunter’s vacation paradise just turned into hell on earth.
REVIEW:
For those of you who follow my reviews, you will know that I really, really liked the first book in this series, Hitting Black Ice, when I reviewed it. I think a lot of it was that it was set in locations that I was familiar with and the story moved along very quickly. So I’ve been super excited to get this new book to review…
Now we have the next installment in the series, titled Send Lawyers, Guns, and Roses. I was happy to see Hunter and Alex’s story continue, and this time their story moves from Massachusetts to a tiny island called Saba. I’ll be honest. I thought for sure the author had made up Saba, as I had never heard of it. Well, turns out she didn’t. It is a very tiny island in the former Neatherlands Antilles. And now having looked up some photos, I can understand why the characters talked about screaming when the plane landed at the airport!
So now that we know they scream, let’s talk about the characters and the story. As I mentioned, this is a continuation of Alex and Hunter’s story and starts shortly after the events at the end of the first book. For those of you who read that one, you will remember that Hunter was shot accidently near the end of that book. He is still recovering and Alex’s two moms think there is no better place to recover than on Saba in tropical splendor. But they might have forgotten to mention that there might be criminal elements at work on the island that Alex and Hunter would fall right into the middle of…
Thieves, murderers, mobsters, the FBI, and the local authorities. The boys will run afoul of them all in this story. I liked this one. It was very well written and edited, and it kept me flipping the pages. I’ll be honest and say it wasn’t my favorite of the two, but that is obviously because I loved the first one so much!
I recommend this book, but you should read the predecessor first. It is a continuing story, and you won’t get it unless you’ve read the first book. There seemed to be a bunch of open storylines at the end but it doesn’t end in a cliffhanger. I’m guessing we will see more of their story in the future…so I will be waiting patiently to see what happens next!
