BLURB:
Seth finds himself alone at an abandoned train station, with no idea what happened, or how he got there. He boards a train, only to discover it’s a special express transporting the recently deceased to their final destination. The conductor tells him he’s having a near-death experience. Seth wonders if it has something to do with his violent boyfriend, but that doesn’t matter. All that matters is getting the hell off the train before he actually dies. But when he spots his best friend and secret crush among the traveling dead, the urge to leave fades…
REVIEW:
This was a very different but somewhat refreshing type of story. There is a lot of sadness here, however. I know that’s sort of obvious considering the blurb of the story. What I wasn’t prepared for was the big mystery that develops pretty much from the beginning. I liked how it all played out in the end and it really just added another level of intrigue to an already interesting story.
Liam and Seth have been friends since childhood. They’ve always been close so it’s weird that they lost touch after a few years during adulthood. A lot of that has to do with the fact that Seth has found himself in a horribly violent and dysfunctional relationship. His partner successfully cuts off Seth’s ties to friends which leaves Seth incredibly lonely and desperate for affection.
Mistakes are made and Seth finds himself in a state between life and death. Incredibly, he finds his best friend on the “death” train. After catching up and sharing stories they not only rekindle their friendship but they also find themselves drawn to each other on another level.
Not really able to take the relationship where they want they have to heal and grieve so they both can move on in order to be together.
Overall, I liked this story. It was just different enough to really grab the reader’s attention. A new to me author that I will be seeking out in the future. Recommend.
