BLURB:
Small town cop Will Jacoby is comfortable in his life, or so he thinks. When he realizes that Brannon Frost, his neighbor and friend, has grown into a handsome young man, he’s confused by his interest. Things get even more messed up in Will’s head when Brannon kisses him.
A man would know he’s gay before the age of thirty, right?
When Brannon’s father dies, Will steps up and becomes the friend Brannon needs. Soon Will is no longer able to deny his feelings for the young man, even though it could damage his carefully constructed life and career.
This story was formerly part of the multi-author anthology Uniform: A Man in Uniform MM Bundle.
REVIEW:
On the surface I thought this was your normal gay for you story, but it goes much deeper than that. Wil is in serious denial about even being in denial. He dismisses what he feels because it could not possibly be true. Could it? He really likes Brannon and is confused by both his body’s and his heart’s reactions to the young man. And he is a young man 12 years Wil’s junior.
Brannon is sure that Wil is the one. He may be young, but he knows what he feels is real. When he takes a chance to let Wil know how he feels, it does not go well for either of them. Brannon despairs that not only has he lost a chance of happiness, he has lost a good friend as well.
When tragedy strikes, it leaves Brannon feeling devastated and alone. But he is not alone. Wil steps up and becomes the rock that Brannon needs. This forces him to face the truth of just how he feels for Brannon. I really liked how selfless Wil becomes here. He firmly sets aside his own misgivings to do everything he can to make Brannon feel like he has someone who cares for him and will never leave him alone.
I also liked how the roles were reversed in this story. It is Brannon who was mature and in touch with his feelings and what he wanted. He was light years ahead of Wil’s mindset. Once Wil gets with the program, they were sweet together and the sex was hot.
I had not previously read any of the books in this series and it did not reduce my enjoyment of this
story at all. In fact, it teases us for a future book that sounds intriguing.
