Review:
So, I picked this book and I was very excited to read it, but the first thing that comes to mind when I read this was “where in the hell was the editor?”
I wanted to like Ethan, but his character is so wishy-washy it drove me crazy. He kept thinking “sleeping with the boss is wrong” and then throwing himself into Chance’s arms. I would have had way more respect for him if he had even tried just a little to stick to his guns without stomping around pouting like a little boy.
Chance is just kind of arrogant and even when he falls for Ethan, he’s so concerned with how he’s “changing” and he takes way too long to realize that it’s for the better. And a bit of a problem for me was the fact that he’s in a position of authority over Ethan but seems to have no problem with badgering Ethan into doing what he wants or threatening to have sex with someone else to make Ethan jealous.
The question about the editor comes into play because the words “babe” and “baby” are used almost 200 times in this 165 page novel and while I have no problem with pet names between lovers, this was way too much. The writer couldn’t seem to pick a point of view and hopped heads from character to character, including Ethan, Chance and Chance’s other employee (and ex-lover) Brad. Top it all off with people communicating through what seemed to be telepathic “looks” all the time and I had a very hard time finishing this story.
When I picked the story, I loved the premise and maybe with some stronger characters that I could have gotten to know a little better and like, I would have enjoyed it a lot more.
