This time we have a question we would like to see answered in the comment section:
“Do you like series reviews as one lot or released individually?”
I prefer the reviews to be individual instead of a review on the whole series. It’s great when the book is reviewed to know if the series is flowing nicely. I also really like to know if the books in a series can be read as stand alones or if they have to be read in order. Thanks for the chance 🙂
I like it both ways and have reviewed both ways myself.
I think if the books flow into each other or have short books they are better reviewed as a whole. However if the individual books are either longer or standalones then individual reviews make more sense.
I prefer reviews for each book in a series instead of as a whole as it gives me a clearer view of what each book is like. Especially as sometimes I’ll comes across a book in a series, that can be read as a stand alone, that isn’t all too good and I wish I’d waited until a later date when maybe the price had dropped… But.. I also REALLY like when a review tells me which order the books are to be read in, either as an all over review or the previous/next book in a series in individual reviews. 🙂
I like both ways. I read a series review of Alexa Land on this site, ordered one book- then turned around and ordered all of them. It was kind of fun. I don’t mind spoilers though and tend to like to read blurbs for upcoming books in the series.
I prefer all the books in the series to be released at the same time. If they are spread out, I lose the thread of the story line, or the intricate ways the characters meld together. Especially if it’s a series like the Bluewater Bay books, with different authors contributing. I’m sure I’ve neglected buying some books because of this!
Perhaps a review as the books come out, as sometimes an an author only writes a book a year for that series. It’s useful, as other people have commented, that it helps to know the order of a series, as sometimes a book might be a prequel to the other books in the series or a stand alone, or spin off?
I would like a review as the book is released. The first book will tell me if I am interested in the series.
I can see the merits of doing it both ways.
If the complete series is out then sure, a series review would be great, with comments as to whether each book could be read as a stand alone or not. But, on the other hand, if the series is not complete, waiting on the series to be complete before doing a review might be a lesson in patience or happen quickly. Some authors abandon a series until the characters speak to them, or some authors have a series that run a large number of books. I mean could you see trying to wait out a series like Laurell K Hamilton’s Anita Blake series to do a series review? She’s at 27 books and still going …. When i stumble upon a complete series, i would love to have a series review to refer to, but on the whole, i think individual reviews would probably be better.
I like a series to be reviews when each book comes out but it would be really good to then see all the reviews for the series grouped together. You have to remember some people like to only read a series when all the books have come out like me!
Either one is fine. Although it seems easier to track down if it’s all in the same post.
Individually, because I’ve found each book can have a different style. I don’t think one book should be judged the same as another if one is better or worse than the others in a series.
I like the reviews as they release. But maybe have a link to the previous reviews.
Either one is okay; like for short series which have only, say two or three books, I wouldn’t mind reading an altogether review, especially if they were released in short period of time.
For series with quite a number of books and long period of of release time in between, I’d prefer reading individual review.
Thank you for the chance.
I tend to forget about most series unless I hear about individual installments, so one at a time is good for me!
I actually find both helpful. A series review is great for getting an overview of what to expect. A review of each book “fine tunes” things, so to speak. But I never rely on reviews in choosing the books I read. If something appeals to me, I’ll give it a go, no matter if it’s a “pick or pan”. Thanks for the opportunity.
If I have to pick one, I would go with individual reviews since I might be reading the books as they come out. But a series review is also helpful because sometimes the first book on its own might seem incomplete but the series as a whole is complete. I also like to know if books in the series can standalone.
Thanks!
I prefer individual, mainly because as a lover of a series, I know that sometimes some books in the series are better (more interesting) than the others. BUT, maybe you can add a ‘summary review’ for the whole series too, just to give readers the big idea of what the series is all about.
I would prefer both. Individual books and then a series recap. If I had to pick one then individual 🙂
If the books in the series are stand alone novels then I’d prefer individual reviews. If the series follows a couple or a set of friends id prefer an overall review perhaps with a general rating for the books themselves individually.
As released, individual reviews but if it was a throwback review then it would be good to have a series review – I have bought series on the basis of a group, review
I like both ways, but it depends how many books are in the series and how far apart are the release dates of the books.
I like to read the individual book reviews. After a long series a final series review would be nice, though.
I tend to not read book reviews before I’ve read the book in question because I don’t want my opinion of it to be biased so in this instance it doesn’t matter much to me. If I had to pick one, I’d pick single book reviews so I could pick and choose which ones to read.
If a series is complete already, then a series review could be nice, especially if each book can be read on its own and the review gives comments on the individual books too. But if a series is ongoing, individual reviews of the books as they come out would probably be my preference. Thanks!
I do not really care which way they are released. It is fine either way.
I prefer them released individually.
I prefer the reviews to be done separately because if I forget about the previous book this would jog my memory and make me want to get the next book.
Released individually since I may base the decision on starting a series on just how good the first book is alone.
individual reviews are best but I’d also be happy to see an “overall” review of a completed series
I prefer individual reviews.
I prefer reviews per book especially when there is some time between the release of the books.
I like both, I think a review of the first book in a series needs to be done to showcase the book, but a whole series review would show that a series is complete and give a overveiw of the whole story. Of course for series like Cattle Valley that are never ending (and not in a bad way) it’d have to be individual reviews 🙂
I prefer individually. It’s easier to me.
I really like to read them in one lot. Faster way to know if I’m going to like the series or not. Ty.
I prefer reviews when the book is released so individual and maybe a total review when all the books are released.
I like both!
