While Jefferson Lee is blindsided by jealousy, the second shoe drops with the appearance of a handsome stranger in the small tight-knit community. Needing answers, Jefferson Lee enlists his best gal-pal Clover Crofton to help find out what secrets Zane is hiding. When they land themselves in more trouble than Jefferson Lee bargained for, he and Zane face the first big test of their relationship. Zane and Jefferson Lee must work through their trust issues if they’re going to make it as a couple, and Clover may just have a thing or two to learn herself.
REVIEW:
Woohoo! Jefferson Lee is back! And so is Clover! And Zane!
This will be a bit spoiler-ish if you haven’t read Dogwood Days.
In the first book, we met Jefferson Lee Davis and his eventual boyfriend Sheriff Zane Yarbrough. They are residents of Holly Creek, a small town in North Carolina. Jefferson Lee is high energy, high maintenance, and high drama…. drama brings Jefferson Lee back to Holly Creek, and by the end of the book he has committed to living in Holly Creek and is rapidly falling in love with Zane. Part of the chaos in the first book was caused by Clover, Jefferson Lee’s childhood friend. Clover is a sweetheart but a troublemaker, and tends to get Jefferson Lee in trouble too.
In this new little story we are back in Holly Creek as the town is preparing for the Rose Festival. All of the usual suspects are around, but this story is more about Jefferson Lee and Zane, and less about the quirky town. Jefferson Lee lets jealousy get the better of him, and with the help of the naughty Clover, gets himself in hot water with the local law… Sheriff Zane! Jefferson Lee and Clover even get to ride in the BACK of the Sheriff’s cruiser!
This book is a bit light on plot, but has such wonderful characters that it totally makes up for a more basic storyline. I just love how all of the characters are intertwined, and seem to interfere freely in each other’s lives, sometime in a positive way, sometimes not so much. Everyone knows everyone else’s business, and Jefferson Lee is learning to use his powers of manipulation wisely.
The relationship between Zane and Jefferson Lee is a little rocky due to some external drama which causes Jefferson Lee to feel jealous and threatened. They just aren’t quite established enough to let things slide by, but do realize this and work through it. We do get some yummy sex with them, both sweet and hot. They are just a great couple. I love the differences between them, Zane being so big and burly, Jefferson Lee more slender. Emotionally they are different as well, Zane seems more ready to jump in, Jefferson Lee holds himself back a little. Their jobs are also very different, Zane the cop, and Jefferson Lee the PR person/blogger. It all makes for a very interesting time between them. Then add in the chaos causing Clover, and the nosy townsfolk and it is so fun to watch!
I’m babbling now, I’ll just say I LOVED this book nearly as much as the first one! I wish it had been longer, and I’d like to have seen the Rose Festival, I felt like it ended a little early, but it was just so much fun to see everyone again!
Thank you Poppy for taking us back to Holly Creek!
BTW, this isn’t a standalone story, you really need to read Dogwood Days to get a true grasp of the awesomeness of Jefferson Lee Davis.
