A warm welcome to author Indra Vaughn joining us today here at Love Bytes for her Riptide blog tour on “Patchwork Paradise”.
Welcome Indra 🙂
Hi guys!
Thank you so much for having me on your blog. I’m thrilled to be here and to talk about my latest release, Patchwork Paradise.
As you may have noticed, this book takes place in Belgium, which happens to be my country of birth, and since seven months my home again.
I went to school in Antwerp, where Oliver and Thomas’s (and in a way, Samuel’s) story takes place. I hadn’t been there in a long time and I still lived in the US when I wrote the book, so a few weeks ago, I decided to walk around Oliver’s home turf and see how it felt. These are the things I learned:
- Traffic did not improve. Not one bit.
- All the bars and clubs I used to go to still exist. I don’t know if people (who, me?) still dance on the tables at Nine Barrels like Ollie and his friends do in the book, but I decided to go find out soon.
- I seriously need to go shopping. Omg all the awesome shops!
- I still love Antwerp’s cosy streets and little squares and flea markets, and how hidden they are. So many people must visit that city and never see what’s really worth seeing.
- I can seriously recommend the night time ghost tour. So. Much. Fun.
It was bittersweet, being back there. In a way I grew into an adult in that city. A lot of things happened there that shaped me into the person I am today. And a lot of those things happened during my nursing training in between hospital walls. When I wrote the book I was going through another major life changing event and I think this may be the one book I’ve written that really reflects the mood I was in when I wrote it.So it’s a personal journey, Patchwork Paradise, and I hope it’s one you’re willing to take with me.
About Patchwork Paradise
Oliver and Samuel’s relationship is fairy-tale perfect. They share a gorgeous house in Antwerp, go out with their friends every weekend, and count down the days to their dream wedding. But their happy ending is shattered one late night, and just like that, Ollie is left bereft and alone.
The months that follow are long and dark, but slowly Ollie emerges from his grief. He even braves the waters of online dating, though deep down he doesn’t believe he can find that connection again. He doesn’t think to look for love right in front of him: his bisexual friend Thomas, the gentle giant with a kind heart and sad eyes who’s wanted him all along.
When Thomas suddenly discovers he has a son who needs him, he’s ill prepared. Ollie opens up his house—Sam’s house—and lets them in. Ollie doesn’t know what scares him more: the responsibility of caring for a baby, or the way Thomas is steadily winning his heart. It will take all the courage he has to discover whether or not fairy tales can happen for real.
About Indra Vaughn
After living in Michigan, USA for seven wonderful years, Indra Vaughn returned back to her Belgian roots. There she will continue to consume herbal tea, do yoga wherever the mat fits, and devour books while single parenting a little boy and working as a nurse.
The stories of boys and their unrequited love will no doubt keep finding their way onto the page—and hopefully into readers hands—even if it takes a little more time.
And if she gleefully posts pictures of snow-free streets in winter, you’ll have to forgive her. Those Michigan blizzards won’t be forgotten in a hurry.

Happy release day, Indra (a couple of days passed, but still…) The book’s certainly an emotional roaller-coster and made me feel as if I were in Belgium journeying along as the story progressing.
