“I won’t get hurt again.”
“He probably has women falling at his feet.”
Attorney Alexander Wilson lies to himself. He’s not in the closet. He’s happy alone. He could come out to his work colleagues any time. Until then it’s one nerd and his Corgi, his string of failed relationships, and his collection of Space Shuttle toys. So when he’s hired by a tattooed, musclebound mechanic, it’s just as well that Conflict of Interest prevents him getting involved.
“A guy like him wouldn’t spend time with a guy like me.”
Mechanic Titus Edwards walked away from a promising Army career. As a former EOD expert he’s faced tougher environments than Flushing, Queens, but never a tougher job: raising his eight year old niece. When her biological father crawls out of the woodwork, Titus needs an attorney if he’s to protect her. But he’s not expecting to find himself drawn to Alex. After all, Alex is a guy. And Titus isn’t gay.
“We’re wasting time on a fairytale.”
Both men are haunted by pasts they would rather forget. But if they are to forge a future together they’re going to need to overcome more than their individual hurts. Can they learn to trust themselves and each other before it’s too late?
REVIEW:
This is one of those books where the blurb actually screamed to me and when it did all I could hear was, “Take me!! Take me!! I’m everything you’ve ever wanted! You have to have me! Take me!! Take me!!” So, what did I do?? Only the obvious thing…I took…and I’m a little disappointed. I wanted to be wow’d, this storyline is nothing really new so I knew there needed to be an element that took this to the next level and reading the blurb I really thought this book had it. It didn’t, IMO. Don’t get me wrong, this is not a bad story. This author does an amazing job spinning a tale, with great detail. I loved Valentina, I could totally picture her every time she was mentioned. I enjoyed the supportive side characters as well. Just the rest of the story was somewhat predictable.
Alexander Wilson is a damn good family lawyer who brings his corgi, Valentina to work with him every day. Knowing that having children in his office is pretty much a regular thing he realizes his clients warm up to him through his dog so she plays a pretty significant role in the story. At work one day he gets a new client who specifically asks for him. It happens to be his mechanic, Titus Edwards who is going through a custody issue with his niece’s deadbeat father.
Ty and Alex find themselves working closely together on the custody case and with every subsequent meeting the attraction between the two grows. The biggest problem is Ty has always identified as straight so these feelings throw him for a loop.
Dealing with the stress of the custody case and both men’s feelings towards each other, Ty and Alex have to navigate their way to their Happily Ever After.
Like I said, I did enjoy this story and I’m interested in other stories by this author because it’s obvious she’s a talented story teller.
