A spirit is a terrible thing to waste.
Stephen Jurgens has always gone his own way, both professionally and personally. Disowned as a child by parents who did not approve of his gifts, Stephen struck out on his own and, along the way, became a highly sought-after psychic. Between his own private clients and the consulting work he does for Revelations, business has never been better. If only his love life was meeting with as much success. Despite his efforts to reach out and enjoy the dating scene, his heart remains drawn to only one man—Maddox Blackwood.
Alpha of the Pontiac wolf pack, Maddox Blackwood is the only man Stephen has ever met who has the power to destroy him. Their initial meeting led to a rejection of epic proportions that left Stephen wary of any kind of romantic entanglement. Now, eight years later, Maddox is back and ready to claim Stephen as his own, as he should have done all those years ago. The only question is, can Stephen find it in himself to forgive the past and accept the future Maddox is offering?
All thoughts of mating are put on the back burner when Revelations receives a call for help from a local cougar pride. People are dying, but are their deaths as mundane as they appear or is something more nefarious plaguing the Pride lands? With their investigation underway, Stephen and his team soon discover that things aren’t always what they seem, and just because you don’t see something, doesn’t mean it isn’t hunting you.
Reader Advisory: This book is best read in sequence as part of a series.
REVIEW:
This is the second book in the revelation series and it tells the story of Stephen a psychic who works for the Revelations company and the alpha of the wolf pack, Maddox. They met several years earlier and Stephen was madly attracted to him. This meeting led to Stephen being rejected and as a result has left him sort of wary of entering into any kind of romantic or intimate relationship of any kind.
Flash forward eight years later and get to meet again however Stephen’s not exactly open to getting together with Maddox after being rejected years before. But of course Maddox is ready and determined to claim Stephen as has his own now.
Their mating is put on hold when they receive a call from the local cougar pride to investigate the mysterious deaths of their pride members. The cougars sisters are convinced that the debts are natural and Stephen and his team are sent to investigate.
Although I like this book it does fall or follow along predictable lines. The book was it poorly written at all and I like this book a lot better than I like the first one however, this book, like the first one in the series didn’t wow me either. Yes, there is action there is a bit of mystery however it’s not exciting. It’s just merely…okay. I liked the characters and the dialogue was merely okay.
I liken it to eating a familiar and comforting dish only to find that it’s bland. It’s not bad tasting but it something that would definitely be fixed when you add a little spice to it. It’s this reason alone that I don’t think that I’ll continue with the series. It’s not because I didn’t enjoy them or they were poorly written or anything like that. It’s just that the series lack the spice that I usually get when reading paranormal books in this genre. I think it has more to do with the fact that I am fond of the shifters more so than I am of the magics. It was full of action and had a bit of mystery to it I still didn’t enjoy it as much as I expected to. Although I must admit I did like reading Stephen learning more about his abilities and himself as well. I like the interaction between Stephen and Maddox but I felt that it could’ve been a little more heat to it. To me their interaction let a bit contrived, giving it a kind of drag and drop feel to the story. It certainly could’ve used something new something…something… fresh to sort of add a little spark to it.
Overall the book was nice. It wasn’t super exciting but it wasn’t boring either. The writer did a good job developing the characters as well as maintaining the continuity of storyline. The transition from one book to the next was smooth.
If you’re looking for something with a little more pop and excitement then this book probably wouldn’t be exactly what you’re looking for. However, if you’re looking for something to read to pass away the time then this isn’t a bad series to get into.
