So March has been a very…interesting month for me! It started off with a hospital visit—while I was in Florida! Certainly not the time you want to go to the hospital. Not that there is ever a good time to go to the hospital.
There I was, at my annual trip to the Dreamspinner Press Author Workshop and I realize I’ve gone into atrial fibrillation! The wonderful Elizabeth North—publisher of DSP— talked me into going to the hospital and the sweetness personified Mickie Ashling—a wondrous writer—actually went to the hospital with me, because there I would have been, hundreds and hundreds of miles from home, without my husband and all alone.
Luckily I didn’t have to stay in the hospital the whole time and made it back the next day, in relatively better shape. What’s more, when I arrived and walked into the huge room where everyone was gathered, I got a standing ovation. I could barely contain myself. It is so wonderful to be a part of a family that truly loves me.
So I haven’t been back to work since, although that won’t last forever. I thank God every day for that because they people at work aren’t family and don’t care about me and so it’s been amazing to get away from that toxic environment.
I have been going to see my cardiologists and they are trying to figure out what is going on and I have stress tests planed and very possibly, sleep studies and maybe even a daily/nightly monitoring of my heart for a month with this portable monitor so they can see what my heart is doing day to day.
I have managed to keep a fairly good attitude about all this even though I would wish for different circumstances.
However…I really do believe that famous poem, the Desiderata, which states that “And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the Universe is unfolding as it should.”
Because…after nearly a year of it being like pulling teeth and worse to be able to write—the only serious writing set back I’ve had since beginning this writing career nearly six years ago—something wondrous has happened.
I’m writing!
And I am writing up a storm.
Last week I wrote 25 thousand words in one week!
This past week I’ve written 20 thousand and as I write this, the week isn’t over.
It’s very exciting and I am so happy and I don’t have to be back to work until at least April 18th and if I can maintain even half this output, I am going to get a lot done. Books people have been asking me about and emailing me about will soon be available!
And there’s one more thing I am excited about—in a month of really exciting occurrences.
I have started a new feature on my blog called “Look Who Dropped in at the Shepherd’s Bean.”
So far my guests have already been Andrew Grey and JP Barnaby and next week is Brandon Witt! It’s been a blast and I hope you’ll head over there and take a look.
For Easter, it’s time with “R”’s family and that mean’s his grandmother’s ham, his mother’s cheesy potatoes and deviled eggs and I’m hoping his aunt’s pies. Woot! Woot!
And any minute now…I think I am going to have completed another novel!
In the meantime I’ve been doing a lot of resting and napping as well. Got to get back into shape! I want to be around a long time to come.
In a month of diversity, there have been such blessings and in the end, I can only be happy and grateful. Hey! I’m still standing! Or at least sitting!
Namasté, and have a wonderful Easter!

B.G. is a novelist and blogger. Every day last year he made and entry in his blog. “365 Days of Silver,” where he found something every day to be grateful for. You can find it right here: https://365daysofsilver.wordpress.com/
B.G. loves romance, comedies, fantasy, science fiction and even horror-as far as he is concerned, as long as the stories are character driven and entertaining, it doesn’t matter the genre. He has gone to conventions since he was fourteen years old and has been lucky enough to meet many of his favorite writers. He has made up stories since he was child; it is where he finds his joy.
In the nineties, he wrote for gay magazines but stopped because the editors wanted all sex without plot. “The sex is never as important as the characters,” he says. “Who cares what they are doing if we don’t care about them?” Excited about the growing male/male romance market, he began writing again. Gay men are what he knows best, after all. He submitted his first story in years and was thrilled when it was accepted in four days.
“Leap, and the net will appear” is his personal philosophy and his message to all. “It is never too late,” he states. “Pursue your dreams. They will come true!”
