BLURB: The men from Kiss of Leather gather together to rescue a terrified young sub. But it’s Master Derek who wants to keep him for good.
Master Gavin and his boy, Kyle, are celebrating their newly established bond when Master Josh calls requesting their help. Josh’s sub, David, needs the men to help his best friend from childhood while they’re away at a BDSM convention in San Francisco.
Corey ran away from his Master after a horrible scene, but he blames himself for everything that happened. No Master would ever want him if they were to find out what he did. Corey’s not sure if he’ll ever feel safe enough to give himself to a Master again anyway, even if all he’s ever wanted was to belong to somebody.
Master Derek agrees to watch over Corey until Josh and David return from the convention. All he needs is another pretty twink messing with his head and his heart, so the older, growly bear of a man determines to keep his distance. But when Corey wakes up screaming after a devastating nightmare, Derek is more drawn than ever to the young sub—the need to keep Corey safe from whatever or whoever has hurt him becoming his main priority.
Kyle and Corey develop a friendship when Corey assists Kyle in the dungeon furniture workshop. Kyle has his own fears—the ones that make him feel he’s broken because of the things he desires to do with Gavin. Through helping Kyle and receiving his own help via Derek, Corey decides he’s ready to let go of the demons from his past and move forward into a new life.
Reader Advisory: This book contains a flashback scene of rape by multiple aggressors.
Publisher’s Note: This book is best read in sequence as part of a series.
REVIEW:
This is the second book in the Kiss of Leather series. Although this book is about Derek and Corey, the first chapter is about Gavin and Kyle from the first book in the series.
I mistakenly thought this book could be read as a standalone, but they can’t. It’s absolutely important to read these books in sequential order as the events in this book picks up immediately after what happened in the first. I ended up having to go back and read the first book as I was confused as what was going on in the second.
Once I got my bearings, I must say that Knight has told a really good story. Corey calls on his best friend, David for help when he finds himself in trouble. David is not within his friend’s reach so he calls in a group he trusts, Gavin, Kyle and Derek to help Corey until he and his master returns.
Corey has been severely betrayed and hurt by his former master and so he’s understandably leery when these men reach out to him. He’s particularly freaked out about his feelings and reactions towards Derek. Corey finds Derek intimidating yet he’s attracted to him.
Derek thinks that he doesn’t have time for a sub but what Derek doesn’t see is that Corey is perfect for him. Corey is a pretty twink that Derek is fond of but Corey is recovering from something horrible, an event that’s left him afraid. The two men work out their attraction towards each other with the help of their mutual friends.
I’ve always enjoyed this author’s characters and this book really shows off her talent for writing these beautiful men who are bent but not completely broken. These men fight their way from that dark place that life has placed them in.
The books are perfect length: not too long to you’re worn out and not too short and always with the HEA that I like. This is yet another series from this author that is definitely worth reading.
Please be advised that this book contains a flashback of a sexual assault. If those are your triggers, it is advised that you skip those parts.
Also, this is part of a series and must be read in sequential order to follow the characters and storyline.
