This is going to be my last post on Love Bytes for a while. I’ve had a huge amount of fun writing these, and it’s been a lovely opportunity to chat, but I’m having to cut down on my commitments a bit. I have a trilogy to write which is giving me the runaround, and time is ticking on.
And in truth, it’s fairly hard to keep coming up with interesting topics. I have been doing two monthly blog posts for a while, as well as my own blog and book tours, not to mention writing the actual books, and I pretty much feel as though you’ve heard everything I have to say for now. It’s definitely someone else’s turn.
In case you miss me, here’s a handy summary of what appear to be my basic principles, as gleaned from a quick look back at my posts here:
- Piracy, plagiarism and intolerance are bad.
- Obscure Victorian facts are good. Especially ones about garbage and graveyards. Also body modifications.
- Blurbs are hard to write.
- There is no passing thought so trivial, fleeting, or surreal that it doesn’t give me a book idea. Apparently.
- Authors should leave reviewers alone. Marketing shills should leave authors alone. Everyone should leave readers alone. Everyone should also leave authors alone, except the characters in their heads, who need to get back here and do some work.
- It’s hard enough writing sex scenes without random door-to-door fish salesmen butting in.
- You can begin to lose your grip on 2016 if you spend too long writing books set in 1819.
- Pretending to be a children’s author in schools is more fun than you might think.
Right, I think that covers everything.
I’d like to thank Dani and the Love Bytes team for hosting me, and you all for having read, shared and commented my ramblings. It would be lovely to return when my current commitments clear up (ha). In the meantime, you can find me intermittently at kjcharleswriter.com, or on Twitter @kj_charles, or in my Facebook group where I do extracts and deleted scenes as well as general low-level yattering on.
Cheers, and see you around.

KJ’s next book, A Gentleman’s Position, is out on 5th April.
Will miss your posts! I hope you wrangle that trilogy soon – we all want to read it.
Thank you! Working on it. 🙂
We will miss you here, but YAY! for more books 🙂
