A warm welcome to author Brandon Witt stopping by today on the promotion of his newest release “Under a Sky of Ash”.
Welcome Brandon 🙂
When you live in Denver, home of on of the most unique restaurants in the country, you long for the day you can write into to novel. Casa Bonita is a huge theme restaurant modeled after Americanized Mexican villages, complete with cliff divers, and gorilla costumed actors may not seem to make sense in a book filled with angst. However, I felt my boys, Isaiah and Ben, needed just a little bit of fun on their first date, in every sense of the word. (And yes, the cave in this scene actually exists, so the next time you’re in Denver, you can come visit the scene of the crime!)
By the time the sopapillas had been devoured and the nearly naked cliff boy had done another set of dives, Ben and I had almost recovered a date feel to the evening. After two rounds of Skee-Ball, we were “accidentally” running our shoulders into each other. One pounding game of whack-a-prairie-dog and we were giggling like schoolgirls.
We watched one of the worst puppet shows I’d ever seen, observed kids split open a piñata, and even got an artist’s drawing of us as caricatures. By the time we got ready to go, most of the other patrons had left.
Ben took my hand. “Come on, before we leave, there’s one thing we have to do. I’ve been saving it till the crowds thinned out.”
Scampering like school kids, we made our way from the lower- level game room to a giant cave set back into the wall. I’d noticed it earlier, but every time we’d passed it, a huge group of screaming kids had been going inside. This time, there was no one else around.
As we crept through the entrance, Ben turned his smile on me. The one that made him look young and his eyes less worn. Colored lights hidden behind fake crystals jutted through the walls, giving the dark cavern pastel yet creepy shadows. We passed over a wooden bridge with plastic skeletons scattered beneath. As we walked through a larger barren room, a huge gorilla zoomed out of the darkness, giving a mechanical roar, then receded once more. I jumped, yelling a higher-pitched scream than I would have hoped with Ben by my side. “What is it with this place and gorillas!”
Ben just laughed and pulled me deeper into the cave, then stopped in the next bend.
“If there’s something getting ready to jump out and scare me, I’m going….” My words trailed off as I saw his expression in the dim blue- and-red lights. “Oh.”
Putting his hand on my chest, he gently but firmly pushed me against the wall, bringing his body close to me. His other hand rose to my chest as well, and working together, they moved slowly over my shirt, running over my shoulders and upper arms, then back to my chest.
I sank back into the wall with a groan.
“This okay?”
“Oh, yeah.” I raised my hand, feeling Ben’s at stomach under his T-shirt, then slipped it around his waist to his back and pulled him against me.
Not to be outdone, he put his hand behind my neck and pulled my face down to meet his as he rose up. He paused when our lips were close enough that I could feel his breath. I didn’t move. I wanted him to kiss me this time, considering how I’d botched the first attempt.
I didn’t have to wait long. His lips were softer than I remembered. Warm and pleasantly dry.
He groaned and rubbed his body against mine, running his hand down from my neck and over my arm, then coming to rest at my waist. As he kissed me, his hips began a slow rhythmic thrust against my own.
Feeling him grow hard against me, still not breaking the kiss, I brought my hand back around, slid it between us, and wrapped my hands around his girth.
With an intake of breath, he pulled away, his hungry gaze meeting mine. “Any objections to getting a blowjob in a cave with a gorilla nearby?”
Blurb:
More than a decade after leaving Colorado to attend college and escape his past, Isaiah Greene moves back and builds a life in Denver as a special education teacher. When he meets Ben Woods, the mentor of one of his students, the attraction is immediate. The revelations that they’ve both suffered traumatic childhoods form a bond between them.
Raised by an abusive grandmother, Ben is a recovering addict who has made a family with his construction worker boss, Hershel, and Hershel’s husband, Daniel—drag queen ManDonna. Adding Isaiah to his life gives Ben a glimpse of a future he’d never dreamed possible for himself.
Both Isaiah and Ben are survivors, but when guilt drives a wedge between them, the past threatens to end their relationship.
Ben and Isaiah embark on journeys of self-discovery. Though their path will be difficult at times, humor and love find a way to bring light to the darkness.

About Brandon:
Brandon Witt’s outlook on life is greatly impacted by his first eighteen years of growing up gay in a small town in the Ozarks, as well as fifteen years as a counselor and special education teacher for students with severe emotional disabilities. Add to that his obsession with corgis and mermaids, then factor in an unhealthy love affair with cheeseburgers, and you realize that with all those issues, he’s got plenty to write about….
