Dumbarten should have been the end of Farrell’s efforts to find his distant ancestor Kel, but the Six have other plans. Farrell is told to continue his search for answers in Agloth, the temple city to Seritia. Forced by the Goddess to ride across the vast continent of Lourdria, Farrell and his companion learn that Meglar’s reach extends well beyond the borders of Ardus. And Agloth, despite being dedicated to the Goddess of Love, is also home to a millennia-old curse that Farrell must end if he wants to complete his task.
Answers don’t come easily, and Farrell determines he must travel to the Dwarf Kingdom of Colograd to continue his quest. When an ally of Meglar’s threatens Agloth, Farrell cuts short his time in Colograd and rushes back to defend Seritia’s home. The attack seems doomed to fail, but the death of one of his companions distracts Farrell at a critical moment. Battling against his crushing grief, Farrell struggles to save Agloth, his friends, and himself. And even if he survives, he still hasn’t found Kel or his answers.
REVIEW:
Mr. Gordon has definitely done it again! Wow, do I love this series. His world building is superb. No matter where the characters roam, you feel like you could step into the location and it would be real.
In Kings of Lore and Legend, Mr. Gordon brings us back to the characters he created in the first two books in this series which I also reviewed here at Love Bytes. You may view those reviews here: The Last Grand Master and The Eye and the Arm.
I’m going to be a giddy fan boy for a minute and tell you that this series is one of my favorites that I’ve reviewed here at Love Bytes. I really enjoy the characters, the story line, the impossible tasks that Mr. Gordon puts his characters through, and their diversity. Within his pages you will encounter a large array of mythical beings, including Gods, and there is magic and a huge battle between good and evil underlying everything that happens.
In this installment, we’re back with Prince Farrell and his life partner Miceral. They, along with their companions, will be off on even greater adventures as they search for the other God related items he is in need of to combat the evil wizard Meglar. He is also still seeking to free the Dwarves in Trellham who were imprisoned at the end of the first great war between the Gods. But he will need help to do it, and the journey won’t be easy. There are a lot of things to do before he can even think of Trellham.
One thing I really appreciated in this book was the “what has gone before” type beginning that gave us a brief overview of the story that preceded this installment. It was a nice way to sink back into the world that Andrew Q. Gordon has so masterfully created.
I highly recommend this book and series to anyone who enjoys a very well written fantasy novel. The m/m characters are part of the story, not the whole story. It is first and foremost a fantasy series. The M/C’s just happen to be m/m. I loved it, but I would highly recommend reading them in order as published. There is a lot of background information you would not have if jumping in directly. Now I’m stuck waiting for book four!!!
