Love Bytes says hello to author Garret Leigh joining us today on Riptide’s blog tour for newest release “Between Ghosts”.
Welcome Garret 🙂
You write all kind of books, do you have a preference in what to write?
My instincts always pull me towards angst and hurt/comfort. Often I start a book with the best of intentions to try something new, but before I know it, so poor bloke has lost a leg or fallen into a river. It seems I just can’t help myself, and I’m a sucker for a good hospital scene in the books I like to read, so I guess it just is what it is.
And, obviously I can’t write comedy, because my nearest and dearest remind me every day just how unfunny I am…
You are a very gifted Cover Designer on top of a writer, could you make a choice if asked in what you prefer most?
Er, probably not. I fell into cover design by accident, but I love it. I find it a good way to cleanse my brain when I’m writing, and, a great source of inspiration when I’m stuck on what to write next. Not only can I create a cover for a book before I’ve even started it, but I also get to read the synopsis and blurb of tons of new books.
That said, when I don’t write for a while, my dreams get kinda funky, so gun to the head, I’d plump for writing.
How do you like to spend a day off?
By day, cooking, cuddling, eating, and shouting at all the humans and furry creatures who mess up my already messy house. By night, more cuddling and eating, while watching war documentaries, the cooking channel, and/or Luther. A bit of reading wouldn’t go amiss either.
What is coming next by Garrett Leigh?
Between Ghosts releases March 14th, after that, I’ve got What Remains coming July 4th, and then Rented Heart sometime in September. I might squeeze a little novella in for Christmas too. After that, 2017 brings the launch of Riptide’s shared world Porthkennack series. I’ve got two books scheduled for that, the first of which I’m halfway through 🙂
In 2003, journalist Connor Regan marched through London to add his voice to a million others, decrying the imminent invasion of Iraq. Eight months later, his brother, James, was killed in action in Mosul.
Three years on, Connor finds himself bound for Iraq to embed with an elite SAS team. He sets his boots on the ground looking for closure and solace—anything to ease the pain of his brother’s death. Instead he finds Sergeant Nathan Thompson.
Nat Thompson is a veteran commander, hardened by years of combat and haunted by the loss of his best friend. Being lumbered with a civilian is a hassle Nat doesn’t need, and he vows to do nothing more than keep the hapless hack from harm’s way.
But Connor proves far from hapless, and too compelling to ignore for long. He walks straight through the steel wall Nat’s built around his heart, and when their mission puts him in mortal danger, Nat must lay old ghosts to rest and fight to the death for the only man he’s ever truly loved.

About Garret Leigh
Garrett Leigh is a British writer and book designer, currently working for Dreamspinner Press, Loose Id, Riptide Publishing, and Black Jazz Press. Her protagonists will always always be tortured, crippled, broken, and deeply flawed. Throw in a tale of enduring true love, some stubbly facial hair, and a bunch of tattoos, and you’ve got yourself a Garrett special.
When not writing, Garrett can generally be found procrastinating on Twitter, cooking up a storm, or sitting on her behind doing as little as possible. That, and dreaming up new ways to torture her characters. Garrett believes in happy endings; she just likes to make her boys work for it.
Garrett also works as a freelance cover artist for various publishing houses and independent authors under the pseudonym G.D. Leigh. For cover art info, please visit blackjazzpress.com.
