The only thing in Colin Mulligan’s life that makes sense is taking cars apart and putting them back together. In the auto shop where he works with his father and brothers, he tries to get through the day without having a panic attack or flying into a rage. Drinking helps. So do running and lifting weights until he can hardly stand. But none of it can change the fact that he’s gay, a secret he has kept from everyone.
Rafael Guerrera has found ways to live with the past he’s ashamed of. He’s dedicated his life to social justice work and to helping youth who, like him, had very little growing up. He has no time for love. Hell, he barely has time for himself. Somehow, everything about miserable, self-destructive Colin cries out to him. But down that path lie the troubles Rafe has worked so hard to leave behind. And as their relationship intensifies, Rafe and Colin are forced to dredge up secrets that both men would prefer stay buried.
REVIEW:
I mean….HOLY HELL this was good. This was better than good. It was phenomenal and I’m in awe of this author. I friggin LOVED In the Middle of Somewhere so I knew going into book 2 there was a good chance I’d love it as well. And no surprise here….I absolutely loved this book. It was painful and beautiful and so incredibly real and emotional. I really thought there would be no way I could love Colin after the way he treated Daniel in book 1 but Roan Parrish was able to redeem him and I’m not going to lie he totally won me over. I felt and bled with him and I wanted and needed to see him at peace with himself. The end doesn’t disappoint ; )
Colin has spent his entire life desperately seeking his father’s approval. For this reason he’s stayed firmly encased in his closet full of hate and self-loathing. His life is filled with hiding and working on cars at his father’s shop. His life is unbearable but he seeks company in dirty alley hookups. After one hookup turns violent he’s rescued by a man that he’s immediately drawn too.
Rafe is completely drawn to Colin. Rafe knows he’s broken and closeted but he can’t stay away from him and seeks him out constantly.
Rafe starts to heal Colin. He starts to make Colin want things he believes he shouldn’t.
Even though I adored Colin in this book. Rafe stole the show. He was one of those characters that will stay with you forever. He was so amazing and patient and giving and kind.
There’s tons going on in this book. Life throws Colin and Rafe several curve balls and its beautiful watching them navigate their life together.
The writing is so amazing, this book is so amazing. It’s actually so hard for me to write the review because I feel like I have so much to say and I don’t know how to articulate just how awesome this writer is. I love these books and I love so hard these characters.
HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!

Hi. Can you tell me if this could be read as a stand alone?
Kenna….it could but I wouldn’t recommend it. You really need the background of the brothers. It’s so much better that way….
I totally agree with your review, Amber. I loved this one just as much as the first book…maybe a little bit more. 🙂 Such a fantastic author!!!
Thank you, Lisa!
