Sully is summoned back to Maestraad by the entity who took control of Tylan’s body when Tylan perished. This Fire King—now calling himself Okhela—offers Sully a bargain he cannot refuse: if, after six months, Sully fails to fall in love with him, Okhela will return Tylan. The trouble is, as much as Sully wants to hate Okhela, the Fire King rules with wisdom and generosity… and Sully cannot resist the attraction he feels toward the handsome king. Though his heart will always belong to Tylan, Sully gives in to his body’s demands.
But can Sully trust Okhela to keep his word? Can Sully even keep the Fire King alive long enough to find out with assassins on the loose? With the future of the kingdom—as well as his heart—at stake, Sully must call upon old friends and new to protect the Fire King who might hold the keys to both.

It was over almost as soon as it began. Twenty-five men, so intent on their mission to assassinate the king, ran into a flaming wall of death and destruction before they realized what was happening to those who preceded them. Only the last couple of men pulled up short as they burst through the door and Sully and Gannon, in no mood to show mercy, came up behind them and gave them a helping shove toward their fiery doom.
Afterward, there was nothing remaining but ashes. Not a single tooth or chip of bone left as testimony to the fact the murderous group had ever been there. Okhela’s burning torso flickered, dimmed, and then extinguished. The Fire King stood before them, bright embers swirling beneath his glowing skin. He trembled slightly, his eyes glazed and unfocused. He was also as naked as the day he was—not born exactly—but created. Most definitely as naked as the day he emerged from the rubble in Tylan’s place.
“Ah, yes… well,” Gannon said, averting his eyes. “I think I’ll send one of the boys for a carriage. He can hardly walk back like that, can he?”
“Send all of them,” Sully replied, beckoning the boys out of hiding behind the desks. “They can’t stay here.”
Gannon nodded his agreement, and the boys seemed glad to have a reason to escape the warehouse and the horror they had witnessed. Not one dared to so much as glance sideways at Okhela as they scurried past him. Just as the king had known would happen—and had wanted so much to avoid—the boys were terrified of him and what he could do.
A little late in the day, Sully heard Captain Baith and the soldiers arriving. As Gannon went out to meet them, Sully was finally able to turn his attention to the naked man before him.
“Are you well?” he asked, approaching warily, just in case Okhela thought he was under further attack and sparked up again.
Okhela stared at him, momentarily confused, and then his eyes cleared and focused. He glanced down at his body and then held his arms straight out in front of him, fascinated by the fire that still danced beneath the surface of his golden skin. Of course, Sully supposed, the fire had never seen itself from that angle before. Before, it had always been called back into Tylan.
“Okhela?” Sully took a step closer. “Did you hear me?”
“I’m… I’m fine. Thank you for asking.” Okhela turned his hands over, watched the flame beneath the skin ripple along his arm at the movement. “I really feel quite well indeed. Invigorated even.”
“Are you sure?” Because he sure didn’t sound it to Sully’s ears right at that moment. “It’s just, burning like that, it left Tylan utterly exhausted for days.”
“I’m not Tylan. I believe we had already established that much.” Okhela raised his eyes to meet Sully’s hungry gaze. “You liked this, didn’t you? When the embers glowed in his body, you liked it.”
“Yes,” Sully answered hoarsely, and was forced to swallow the sudden lump in his throat. “I liked it a great deal. I thought—I still think—it’s beautiful.”
“You find it pleasing even in me?”
By the gods, he had to be losing his mind. He had certainly lost control of his cock, which strained against his leather breeches. But, the truth was, he did find Okhela incredibly beautiful, standing there in all his glory, the hope in the man’s eyes as naked as his body. The ache in Sully’s balls told him quite plainly that the sight did please him. It pleased him very much.
He cleared his throat.
“We’ve… um… sent for a carriage.”
“Sully, you have not answered me.”
“We should really get you back to the castle.”
“Sully—”
“And into some clothes. Definitely some clothes.”
“Sully!” Okhela narrowed the space between them, his own arousal evident. “Answer me.”
“Yes, damn it!” Sully ground out between gritted teeth. “Yes, you please me.”
“You want me.” Not a question. Okhela had no need to ask when he had palmed Sully’s erection and could feel the evidence for himself.
“You should beware,” Sully hissed. “You are perilously close to ending up on your back and being taken here and now.”
“In the ashes of my enemies?” Okhela smiled. “I shall send for a scribe. Such a historic event should be recorded, don’t you think?”
Bio:
I live in rural Oxfordshire, England with my youngest daughter and three guinea pigs. If I’m not writing, I’m reading. Okay, so there is the odd game or ten of Candycrush! I consider myself to be ‘ageless’ as I feel a lot younger on the inside than I actually am on the outside! There’s no point asking because I’m not telling …
