Finlay McIntyre (aka Raven) is a successful adult film star with a penchant for kilts, until an accident cuts short his stardom and leaves him with zero sexual desire, lowered self-esteem, and no job. He knew his porn career wouldn’t last forever, but he wasn’t prepared for retirement at twenty-eight. While trying to figure out the rest of his life, Raven agrees to attend a high school reunion. That’s when a malfunctioning AC unit in his hotel room changes everything.
Caleb Sanderson, an entrepreneur with his own HVAC business, has no idea what to expect when he steps into Raven’s hotel room to fix his AC unit. They’re attracted to each other, but Caleb, closeted, can’t afford a gay relationship, not with his mom pressuring him to produce grandchildren. If he wants to keep Raven—who no closet could hold—he’ll need to tell his family the truth. But Raven has a few secrets of his own. He refuses to reveal his porn past to Caleb, a past that might be the final obstacle to Caleb and Raven having any kind of relationship.
REVIEW:
This is a hard one for me to review because some things I liked a lot and some things I disliked a lot. So really it just cancels each other out and leaves me with a blah feeling. This book is slow moving, from beginning to end, little to no sex, a luke warm connection between the two main characters, and peculiar sub plots that left me with questions.
I’ll start off by saying I really, really liked Caleb. I felt he was sweet, caring, compassionate, and so damn patient. I really enjoyed him. However, I didn’t understand his whole closet situation. Considering his cousin who was like a brother is out and proud in the family why the big hush, hush when it came to Caleb. I found the whole “grandchildren” reasoning weak but again this is just my opinion.
Raven is a quirky, fun, twinky ex-porn star who’s still recovering from a motorcycle accident that left him scarred, scared and lonely. Raven is beautiful and wears kilts because those are his trademark thing. I would have liked a little more background as to why the kilts. It wasn’t really touched on. I get the culture and Scottish thing but he had no family so I didn’t really get it. I think if that was touched on a bit more I could have gotten a clearer picture of Raven because he was hard to read. So, when he and Caleb started to see each other I couldn’t really feel the chemistry on his part.
Due to Raven’s scars he’s very hesitant to start anything physical with Caleb so sexy time doesn’t happen until a good ¾ into the book. There’s dates, kissing, cuddling, etc. throughout the story however.
So, as you can see like I mentioned there were things I liked and things I didn’t. This was an ok story with good writing, and interesting characters.
