BLURB:
Locked-down at a Los Angeles intervention facility, everyone around Dante Dupont and his Black Ice band mate, Ashton Lane, thought this would fix the issues between them. Dante and Ashton knew differently. What made this a hundred times worse was the fact they were stuck in this room together. They hadn’t shared space like this since the one afternoon they both wanted to forget. And, revisiting that nightmare was not an option . . . with or without the help of a therapist.
Two musicians. Same band. Afraid to admit their true feelings, being in close quarters again has them both at their breaking point. They say if you can’t stand the heat, get out of the kitchen, but neither of them can find a reason to leave, and fighting the fire is becoming more and more difficult to do.
Dante’s baggage isn’t pretty and his scars run deep, but Ashton might be the one to finally see beyond his past and help him find a way out from the smoke screen he’s spent his life hiding behind. In order to get there, though, they’ll both have to walk through the flames.
REVIEW:
I was new to Ann Lister and The Rock Gods series. It was suggested to me, by a really good friend that I trust their opinions, and went with it for my Hawaiian vacation reading. It was cool that the last book would be coming out very soon. I admit that I hate waiting for the next novel in the series to arrive. It was also great that the books were on Kindle Unlimited and my husband was glad I was going to get my money’s worth this month. Then I asked if I could do the review for this book, and the last one in the series, since they had not gotten reviewed for Love Bytes.
I was struggling with going back to the Black Ice band. I know that Black Ice and Ivory Tower have been in all the books, and the series started with Dagger, but I had fallen really hard for all the Ivory Tower men and their partners. I was pretty sure that everyone saw that Dante and Ashton’s acting out had some serious and deeply rooted issues. I mean, it was that obvious that the tension between these two men was off the charts. Something had to be done before everything took a huge nosedive. What I wasn’t prepared for was Dante’s history! I won’t give away it but it gutted me. Mistreatment of a child, in any way, is a BIG no-no for me! But I stuck it through and I am so thankful that I did. Was this book and its subject matter hard to read? Heck yes! It gutted me and made me want to wrap these two up in a cocoon and make sure that they were well protected and loved. Was I thankful that Dagger and everyone else got them the treatment that they needed! YES! I know that Dante and Ashton were livid about the situation but it really was the best and only solution. I was also thankful that Wheland, and Rooster, kept appearing in this book. I thought that it was totally necessary since I felt that Wheland had the best grasp on what was up with these two. Not that I don’t love all these Rock Gods but I think these four are my favorites! I want so much more of them.
I do love that all these guys are interwoven in each story. You do get the MC’s story as the basis of the book but, it is intermixed with the MC’s lives that you have fallen in love with in the previous books. And, I am always going to be a sucker for a great Rock series. I was only 9 when I went to my first rock concert, The Beatles no less, and I have been hooked on live performances ever since!
I am going to warn you, this book has a lot going on and some of it can be quite disturbing. But, if you can get past that, the love and devotion that these two men give each other is such a fantastic payoff for the heartbreak that you will endure. Oh, and I might have forgotten to mention the scorching hot sex…just wow! I can’t get enough of this series and these Rock Gods. I was so upset to hear that it would be ending on the next book, but now hear that there is a spin-off series and I am overjoyed! The one thing I wish is that someone would record their songs written here. They are so gripping and raw! In case you can’t figure it out, I can’t recommend this series enough and am on pins and needles waiting for Lincoln’s story!
