SERIES: Cut & Run
AUTHOR: Abigail Roux
PUBLISHER: Riptide Publishing
LENGTH: 8 hours, 52 minutes
NARRATOR: J.F. Harding
BLURB:
After having their faces plastered across the news during a high-profile case, FBI special agents Ty Grady and Zane Garrett have become more useful to the bureau posing for photo ops than working undercover. Just as Zane is beginning to consider retirement a viable option, Ty receives a distress call from a friend, leading them to a city rife with echoes from the past.
New Orleans wears its history on its streets, and it’s the one place Ty’s face could get him killed. Surrounded by trouble as soon as they land, Ty and Zane are swiftly confronted with a past from which Ty can’t hide – one with a surprising connection to Zane’s. As threats close in from all directions, both men must come to terms with the lives they’ve led and the lies they’ve told. They soon discover that not all their secrets are out yet, and nothing lasts forever.
REVIEW:
Touch & Geaux is the seventh book in the Cut & Run series and the story builds on situations from the previous books. As such, reading any of the stories out of order is not recommended, this one included, simply due to the continuously evolving relationships and situations.
Now this was a wild ride, and that sure is saying something, considering the adventures of Ty and Zane in the previous books, but in terms of action (and I don’t mean in the bedroom), this book takes the cake. At times I had to stop listening simply because I was exhausted by everything going on (no spoilers, just check out the tags and you will understand!).
Ty and Zane have always had a turbulent relationship, but here we have what could spell the end of Ty and Zane’s relationship. On one level, I totally understand where both of the guys were coming from, both in terms of their feeling of betrayal, and the depth of their love, but that aspect of the conflict, given everything else going on began to wear on my nerves.
Having Sidewinder together was cool, having the events that lead to Shock & Awe happen mere weeks after I reviewed the story, was even cooler, and to be honest, I wish I had re-read Touch & Geaux before reviewing Shock & Awe, it would have had a significant impact on my empathy and connection to Nick and Kelly.
Harding’s performance was again well done, but what lowered my rating compared to Stars & Stripes is the addition of more secondary characters, such as Digger. Where Harding was consistent with his narrative, Ty’s, and Zane’s voices, he fell short when portraying Nick, Digger, and even at times Liam. Their accents came and went, and pulled me out of the story at times. That is not to say that I was not pleased, overall, I was, just not as much as in the past.
Another great audio addition to my library, and I can guarantee that I will listen to Touch & Geaux again, just like I have read the books on numerous occasions.
