BLURB:
When married private investigators Brent and Quinn Collins are hired to find Andrew, a young man who has disappeared after heading to Idaho Springs, little do they know they will become embroiled in murder. Two other young men have gone missing under similar circumstances and their bodies found buried in the mountains outside of Denver.
The Collins’ investigations soon bring to light another similarity between the murdered men: they were all slender, effeminate, and gay. After Andrew’s body is discovered, Brent and Quinn think they may know who is responsible for the hitchhiker killings.
But when Quinn goes undercover, he finds himself in much deeper waters than he expected. All they have to do is prove it … without ending up dead themselves
REVIEW:
So many same sex books fall into the ‘coming out’ category, which it made a refreshing change to read about an already established, deeply in love couple. The driving force of the plot is, of course, the disappearance of hitchhikers and the ensuing investigation – to solve the mystery.
I’m sure many people who enjoy reading whodunit stories, will find themselves riveted to the pages.
The unsolved case is mysterious, and when one of the PIs goes undercover things become a little intense. When the couple had to break the news of Andrew’s demise to his mother, it bought home the dreaded side of working in law enforcement, how difficult it must be to be the bearer of such devastating news.
My issue with the story was the lack of any depth to the narration. The story is heavy on tell, light on show. Numerous times I had to backtrack to figure out whose point-of-view I was supposed to be reading from. Don’t get me wrong, the story tells us how much these two are in love, but I need to be able to see, to feel the emotion. At the end of the story I couldn’t even remember the main characters’ names, much less what they looked like.
Erotic content – There are a couple of sex scenes, but again they were so mechanical I had to try hard not to cringe. “Lube two fingers, enter channel.” I can deal with that one time but the second time, almost word for word, not so much! For any of you jumping up and down, this is my opinion only and I realize you may all very much love the things that didn’t work for me, so I urge you to grab a copy and decide for yourself if this story floats your boat. I sincerely hope it does.
As a footnote – There are a few typos/grammatical errors in this story, but nothing that would bother most readers. I tend to see them all, and believe me, it can be a curse.
