BLURB:
Years ago, the Wasp Lake pack forced Matthias out after he dared to fall in love with the Packmaster’s Omega son, Bree. Now Matthias has made his fortune on the sea and returned to claim his mate. But the world he left behind isn’t the one he finds.
Bree has become an outcast and been lied to from the start. He’s been told Matthias left because he’d fallen out of love with him. He hasn’t mated with any other wolves or borne them cubs, but the struggle against his Omega nature has taken its toll. He knows he can’t hold out much longer, even if he does have a secret den to hide in when he’s in heat.
Matthias takes shelter from a blizzard in Bree’s bolt-hole just as mating fever consumes the Omega, and the former lovers are reunited just in time for their world to change again — for keeps.
REVIEW:
Years after being abandoned by his lover, Bree is still determined to keep himself apart from the other alphas in his pack. Refusing to let anyone touch him, and hiding himself away during his heats, he lives on the fringes of his pack, not important enough to care for but still too valuable to let go. Matthias never wanted to leave Bree behind but when the choices are leave or be killed, he chose to battle another day. Now that he’s made a life away from the pack that threw him out, he’s back for the only thing he’s thought of since leaving, the one thing he’s always thought worth fighting for: Bree. The years apart have been tough, however, and Matthias will have to convince his former lover he’s here to stay if he wants a chance at his happy ever after.
This was a sweet book, which is kind of odd for an Alpha/Omega book with heat sex in it, but its true nonetheless. The situation being how it is, with Bree feeling he was abandoned and Matthias swearing he never forgot him, there could’ve been a lot more angst in this than there was. Instead, despite Bree being in heat, Matthias is determined to prove that what Bree wants matters to him, even when his nature would dictate he do otherwise. I found Matthias attempts at caring for Bree sweet and it was nice to see that he understood it would take more than just him coming back to win Bree’s love back. The sex wasn’t overwhelming, which was appreciated, and what was there was enjoyable but not as scorching as I expected. Overall, this was a nice intro to a new series and it left off with a sweet, happy ending that made me smile.
