BLURB:
Spencer Cohen is the guy who gets answers to relationship questions. Playing the role of the new lover, his job is to make his client’s ex realise one of two things: he doesn’t want to break up or he really does. Either way, his client gets answers.
The ex would either apologize and beg, or turn and walk. But in the end, Spencer’s client won. If he wanted his ex back and got him, it was great. If the guy walked away, then as hard it was for the client, he knew it was over. Regardless of the outcome, Spencer’s work was done.
Andrew Landon’s ex left him without so much as an explanation. But his sister can’t stand to see him miserable, so, much to Andrew’s dismay, they hire Spencer to be Andrew’s new boyfriend to get the ex back.
For Spencer, it is never personal. Merely a business transaction. No emotions, no strings, no complications.
Yeah right.
Even a blind man could see how this would end.
REVIEW:
Yes yes yes! Tattoos, nerdy boy, suspenders…. I’m sold!
What a great new series from one of my favorite authors! I’m so happy. This is a short story with minimal plot, so I’m going to be light on the details….
Spencer Cohen, Aussie living in LA, has made a job for himself, out of helping people win back their lost loves. Or at least confirm their relationships are over. He is gay, but will play straight if needed. His a hipster, tattooed, wears suspenders, vests, and short pants. Lumbersexual is the perfect term for him! His latest client is Andrew, who would like to get his ex-boyfriend, Eli, back. Andrew is a bit nerdy, clean-cut, an animator, a piano player, a listener of jazz and classical. Eli is…. well…. a jerk. From what we learn anyway.
So Spencer gets to know Andrew in order to come up with a plan for him to win back the love of Eli. But there is a problem. Spencer kinda likes Andrew. LIKES likes him, if you know what I mean.
The two bond over food, music, and movies, and….
You’ll have to read it!
There are so many good things about this story, Andrew and Spencer certainly, I wanted to say Spencer specifically, but I loved Andrew too. They are a great couple of characters, but so is everyone in this book. Spencer has made himself a nice little family in LA, around a tattoo shop owned by Emilio and Daniela. His best friend Lola, and her man Gabe. All come and go, helping Spencer live a great life. But there is some depth to him, some pain in his past that just starts to come out at the end of the book.
There are lots of pop culture references, I laughed at the beginning of the book, even before the story started, just looking at all of the Trademark Acknowledgements. Music and movies!
I am a big fan of NR Walker and this is just the perfect example of her writing. A great story with quirky characters. The only thing missing, and what brought my rating down a half star, was the lack of sex… While I agree with it not being time for that to happen yet, I have to be true to my smutty heart and say I did notice there wasn’t any! I’m betting we’ll see some nooky in the next one though. Which I am very excited to read!

I loved this book to absolute pieces – and the ending had me squeeing like a tween at a Bieber concert.
