REVIEW:
This story demanded my attention from the very start to the very end. It had so much going on; if I let my mind wander I had to backtrack to ensure I hadn’t missed a thing! The action and suspense doesn’t let up, until the very conclusion of the story. It’s told in third person and from the main characters’ point of views. Which for me was another plus, as it’s my preferred style of narration.
In so many books, I find that around the 80% mark, the villain’s revealed and from that point, the story winds down to a predictable happy ever after. That was not the case here.
By the time I hit the 80-90% mark, I had a mini meltdown when I had to put the book aside to deal with real life. And at 95% I still had no clue what the fate of some of the characters would be, in particular, two side characters who I came to care for as much as the main characters.
There are a few huge time lapses in the beginning of the story, at one stage 200 years, which to be honest I struggled with, but once I got over that hurdle I was completely immersed in the plot.
Not once did I know how things would play out between the jilted Tiffany and Nira. It was sad when Nikki died but the gift she left Stephanie and Nira played a huge part in the story. Not that I can say what that was without giving away spoilers.
There’s some gore, which I loved, but there’s not so much that you can’t skim those parts if you’re squeamish. The story contains many elements I love in a good tale – witches, vampires, Fae, spells, crystals, murder and mayhem, heartache, love, and some hot same sex loving.
This is the first story I’ve read by this author and it most certainly won’t be the last.
I highly recommend the ‘The Awakening’ to lovers of fast paced stories with a side of spice.
