SERIES: Fitting In #1
AUTHOR: Silvia Violet
PUBLISHER: Self-Published
LENGTH: 4 hours, 22 minutes
NARRATOR: Greg Boudreaux
BLURB:
Two cops walk into a bar. Mason, the bartender, waits for the punch line, because no way in hell are these ridiculously hot men real cops. They’re straight out of a cop-fetish fantasy. But he quickly learns that Jack and Gray are the real deal, and they want him in the worst way.
What starts as a night of hot, three-way sex becomes a lot more. The two cops fulfill Mason’s submissive fantasies, but they also meet a more basic need: comfort. They want to take care of Mason, to offer him unconditional friendship, but their concern for him unnerves Mason more than even the kinkiest sex.
To find happiness with his new partners, Mason must change his belief that love is as much a fantasy as a pair of gorgeous, handcuff-wielding cops landing in his bed.
REVIEW:
Mason’s skittishness and fear came close to becoming over the top, but our ability to see his thoughts, and having the story told in his POV helped to mitigate the drama, at least for us, the reader. The same cannot be said for Gray and Jack, but especially Gray, who takes Mason’s reticence personally, and does not take the time to figure out why Mason is so afraid. This comes down to his dominant personality, where he just expects others to fall into line at his beck and call.
The title and cover could not be better, there is no doubt that this is a ménage story, and once we have gotten into the book, it is apparent that fitting in is what Mason needs to figure out, but he cannot do it by himself.
I liked that Mason may have fallen into bed with Jack and Gray somewhat readily, but when he became too emotionally invested, he pulled away. His chivalry is misunderstood, and the fact that he comes to realize that he is willing to take the chance, in fact, it took him a number of days and (no spoilers here) “an incident” before he feels confident enough to make a move.
Although the idea of two insanely hot cops is appealing, I did find it odd that they would spend so much time in a bar, after their shifts in uniform. Setting that aside, I found that Violet did a good job developing the two characters, giving them enough depth to make their choices and relationship feasible.
Boudreaux was a great choice for the narration, I loved his portrayal of Mason and Gray, but found that his narrative voice and Jack’s were very similar at times. I found that he added an authentic feel to the numerous sex scenes, but not every time, which wasn’t awful, but did draw me out of the story a bit. The overall production value was top-notch, and other than those few observations, I have no complaints, and will definitely look for other stories narrated by him.
