Shane is fucking special; the much sought after proof of that is flowing through his veins.
After barely escaping the attack of a mysterious stalker in a trench coat, Shane meets and is invited to the apartment of a handsome diner waiter named Brent. As the night progresses, Shane soon learns that not only is Brent, but also the waiter’s temper mental roommate and fellow tenants of the apartment tower, are a bit fucking special in their own unique ways.
Shane’s tale is coupled with the stories of a cursed lay, a troubled boy, a soulless drag queen, and a possessive romantic’s. Introducing, the first book of a series, Fucking Special.
REVIEW:
You know what I really dislike? Giving people the opportunity to say, “I told you so” to me. I mean I really, really dislike it. I go out of my way to try and avoid it at all cost. Which is just another reason (on top of at least a dozen other reasons) for me to be annoyed with this story.
This story had many issues, but my main concerns were the mediocre writing and a plot that not only was hard to follow it was, for lack of a better word, incomplete. The author had too many characters and too many other stories going on to keep track. Maybe if the writing was more polished it wouldn’t have been so confusing but alas, that was not the case. I literally rolled my eyes so many times and the title is used way too much in the story. If this wasn’t enough I think towards the end the author forgot the name of one of their characters. He went from Alton to Aiden with no explanation as to why.
A brief recap of the story. Shane is special. He was born with special blood. Blood that certain, I don’t even know if they are monsters or what, but there are people who would do basically anything for his blood, because it holds a special power. Keep in mind aside from “consumer” and “Fucking Special” we’re never told the origination of these people. Why is Shane’s blood “Fucking Special”? Why are some people consumers and others aren’t and what on earth is wrong with Dennis and Alton/Aiden? There were just so many questions left unanswered, and at the end of the day it didn’t even matter to me anymore because this book was just not well done at all.
I honestly thought the title and blurb were just interesting enough for me to really enjoy this story. I was wrong, and unfortunately several people read the blurb and cautioned me beforehand. So to them I say, you were right.
