LENGTH: 216 Pages
BLURB:
Zander and Felix’s relationship has been to the brink and back: the Human-Stin War, imprisonment and an actual death/resurrection. Zander’s death, to be specific, and the experience has left him…changed. The mysterious race known as the Guardians chose to revive him and appointed him as their emissary. A high honor, but he could do without the group of would-be cultists following him around the galaxy.
When a recently discovered species destroys a stin probe, Zander’s new role soon commands all of his time and focus. The human ambassador—Felix’s ex-lover, much to Zander’s annoyance—pulls them into strategy talks aimed at preserving galactic peace. Soon everyone is relying on Zander’s Guardian tech to telepathically communicate with the strange aliens.
Only Felix seems concerned with the strain piling up on Zander, but he has his own resolve tested when the very stin that imprisoned him show up to a summit. Zander and Felix will both have to find a way to face their doubts and preserve their love—while preventing another galaxy-wide war.
REVIEW:
I really like this series. Again I have to say, as I did on my review of the last book, that each book gets just a little bit better and the authors haven’t lost anything along the way. The series is set in the far future, when humankind has made contact with three alien species.
In the fourth installment in the series, we pick up the story of Zander Anatolius (Zed) and his partner Felix Ingesson (Flick) shortly after the events in Skip Trace. When book three ended, a new fourth species had just contacted them through the Guardians. The Guardians are a mysterious omnipotent race that seems to be becoming more involved in the inter-relations between the other three species. Since they brought Zed back to life in a previous book, they have had a contact with him telepathically.
This book is the story of the fifth races arrival, and the drama that unfolds. Of course, Zed and Flick are right in the middle of it all, as is the rest of the crew of the starship Chaos. Along the way we have our whole host of characters from the previous books, including some bad ones from the Stin, the evil race that humans have been at war with up until one year previously. One of the Stin is the actual creature who had Felix imprisoned as a prisoner of war and who was the one who performed torture on him. In case you didn’t get it from that, the Stin are the bad guys. And did I mention they are insectoid?
In my opinion it is important that this series be read in order. I’m not sure if you jumped in with this fourth book to start that you would have the background to understand a lot of what is going on. Since I highly recommend the entire series…that shouldn’t be an issue. If you are a sci-fi / speculative fiction fan, this series is for you. There is a continuing romance between the two MCs, which spans the entire series, but it isn’t all about that romance. There is a lot of substance to the story as well.
I recommend you pick this and the rest of the series up and catch up! The fifth and final book is due out in about 3 months and you’ll want to be ready for it!
