BLURB:
Dax Portrain has it all – he’s the next Alpha of the only pack in town, he owns a successful night club and he has men falling all over him every night of the week. So when he catches sight of a new vampire in town, he tries to shrug off the instant attraction he feels. After all, everyone knows that wolf shifters and vampires do not get along.
Zane Macintosh has lived a long and full life, and while he might have issues trying to pass himself off as human at the Portrain police department, he knows it’s only temporary and shrugs off the problems. A night out with friends turns his whole life upside down when he catches sight of Dax with his pack. The gorgeous hunk is his mate, but that doesn’t mean that anything has to come of it. In fact, he’s determined nothing will.
One explosive meeting sends both men’s lives into a spiral. Zane knows the only way things can end well for his mate is to allow himself to die. But Dax has a stubborn streak a mile wide and isn’t going to let Zane go that easily.
Warning: This is an M/M book and contains graphic scenes of sexual practices between two men. Some violence and coarse language, no cliffhangers, a definite HEA, and love of course, because I couldn’t write any of my books without it.
REVIEW:
When I initially read the blurb for this books I got so excited. It’s been awhile since I read a good shifter/vampire story and this one has vampires and shifters and mated pairs, oh my!!! I love everything about that idea so I jumped into this story, head first. Unfortunately, while I did like it some things had me scratching my head. It seemed as though the whole star-crossed lover thing was a bit forced or maybe even unnecessary as far as the story goes. I didn’t really understand the whole matter of life and death having to stay away from each other thing. I thought also at times Zane and Dax’s feelings for each other were a little unbelievable. The passion and lust was through the roof hot but I don’t think I really felt the emotional pull between the characters.
Zane Macintosh, a Police Detective and vampire, realizes early on the club he frequents with his friends is ran by his fated mate, Dax Portrain. Believing their union is doomed since vampires and shifters usually do not mate each other both men try very hard to stay away from one another. Being mated ensures that both men must meet occasionally or risk dying.
Dax is tired of the ruse and vows to claim his mate properly no matter the consequences. Being the next Alpha in line creates a whole other set of issues for him. Enemies come out of the woodwork to try and destroy everything Dax is trying to create with Zane.
Although a little cheesy and predictable I really liked the mystery/bad guy element in the story. And I like Dax and Zane as characters, they were friggin ridiculously hot together. Like I mentioned it was cheesy and the emotional side of things was a little unbelievable, in my opinion. But this was a good story. It definitely scratched that paranormal itch I had.
