TITLE: Harley’s Achilles
SERIES: The Rock Series#3
AUTHOR: Sandrine Gasq-Dion
PUBLISHER: Skull Blaster Publishing
LENGTH: 195 pages
BLURB:
This book is part of series, but can be read as a standalone. It is preceded by Fret and Jinxed. This book contains homosexual relationships and coarse language.
Rock star Harley Payne seems to have it all. Skyrocketing career. More money than he’ll ever need. And women. Lots and LOTS of women. But “seems” is the operative word. Because beneath the material trappings of his fame, Harley is deeply in pain. Reeling from the death of his soldier brother, and apparently nonexistent to his parents, every day is an emotional battle for Harley. When Mac Collins, owner of Mac’s Security, puts Achilles Castellanos squarely into Harley’s orbit as a bodyguard, Harley’s world tips on its axis in more ways than one. Under the huge bodyguard’s surveillance 24/7, Harley’s love life takes a nose dive. Surprisingly, Harley doesn’t care because he’s starting to realize his bodyguard has become to mean more to him than just muscle.
Former Delta Force leader Achilles Castellanos lost an entire team, as well as his first love, in an ambush in Ramadi. Clawing his way back to the surface has been hell, but Achilles’ iron will has dragged him from the depths of despair. Achilles can’t miss the crippling pain that shadows his new charge, heavy metal band member Harley Payne. What began as just another bodyguard job has become his very reason for breathing when Achilles finds himself falling for the rambunctious Harley.
Sparks fly when the men travel to Greece, but a startling revelation could ruin everything before Aphrodite even gets a chance to give them her blessing
REVIEW:
Let me start with expressing my enjoyment regarding this series. Where we first met Gareth and Axel in “Fret” and after that Jinx and Jared in “Jinxed” we now have arrived at the highly anticipated third book in the series, “Harley’s Achilles” which is, well, the story of Harley and Achilles. As a reader we already were a bit warmed up by the author after getting a snippet at the end of book 2. The expectations were high and Miss Gasq-Dion surely delivers.
Harley is outgoing and expressive, always testing the limits, but inside broken man and Achilles is a big Greek bodyguard who is former military. You know from the moment they meet that there’s something there (even in the second book), but quit a few wrong assumptions and miscommunications leave them constantly spinning around each other.
It takes the best part of the book for them to get their head out of their asses, so to speak, and to finally man up to what everybody knew was there already.
The story takes us a through sickness and a holiday break spent in Greece with Achilles family where Harley finally starts to feel that there is something like paternal and maternal love and that he might be deserving of receiving that.
A big red line in this story is Harley’s deceased brother Holdon. Without spoiling too much it is when Harley finally allows himself to fully grieve and let go of his anger and pain, he finally “sees” what has been their all the time.
This series is about family beyond blood, about men finding love, but also a family within themselves and together. It is about something so strong you want to believe it is forever.
Author Sandrine Gasq-Dion once again shows us a sneak peek at the next story in the series but as a reader you can only hope that, that isn’t the last one. I mean what about Rebel & Stan and for me the one I really would like to read despite neither of them being a member of “Skullblasters” is Hamer & Eviander.
This series is for me a must read and the connection between the stories and the characters makes it for me just a little bit more enjoyable to read.
