A holiday in the country to indulge his wildest fantasies…
London Legal, Book 1
Arthur Barrington knows exactly what he wants. A practical man. Someone who values discretion. Commitment. In other words, someone like himself. His old friend, Leopold Thornton, an overindulged son of a wealthy viscount with a reputation for vice and debauchery, couldn’t be less of a good candidate.
Yet when Leopold extends an invitation to his country estate, Arthur agrees. Perhaps a holiday with the sinfully beautiful man will help him get over a recent breakup. Then he can return to his thriving London law practice and resume his quiet life.
Ten years ago, Leopold learned the hard way that patience doesn’t always have its rewards. Now that he has Arthur all to himself, he isn’t going to let a second opportunity pass him by. And he certainly isn’t above using pleasure to tempt Arthur into his bed.
Leopold has only a few days to open Arthur’s eyes to the possibility that he’s the man Arthur is looking for. That his love is genuine—and he’s worthy of Arthur’s heart.
Warning: Includes a gorgeous bad boy who’s been in love with a conservative solicitor for a decade. Indecent acts in a forest between two hot men. Angst. More explicit sex. And expectations turned upside down.
This is a previously published work. This second edition has been edited with minor changes. For readers who purchased the original edition, this second edition is not substantially different.
REVIEW:
Leopold, rich spoiled Leopold, has wanted Arthur for ten years. He missed his opportunity and Arthur formed an attachment with a man that doesn’t appreciate him. Now, ten years later, Leopold hears that Arthur and the asshole have split, and he makes his move. He asks Arthur to visit him in his country home for a few days.
When the book starts, Arthur is late, and Leopold is panicking. Of course Arthur does show up, and the two start a very tentative few days together. Arthur is from a much lower class in society that Leopold is, actually needing to work to keep himself housed and fed. He sees Leopold as a rich playboy, and Arthur wants more than that. He is certainly attracted to the man, but he wants a relationship, as much as men in their situation can have. He agrees to the visit, hoping I think, to fuck Leopold out of his mind, go back to London, and find a man to settle down with. His plans don’t work out quite like he thought…
Now I liked this book just fine, I love Ava’s books, although this one had a bit less BDSM than others have. Arthur and Leopold are a good match, same age, both gorgeous, virile healthy men. They have sex several times in this book, and it is quite tasty. My issue was…. I’m not really sure to be honest. It’s a short story, only takes place over a couple of days, and there really wasn’t much plot. We get a little background of the two, but not much. Leopold is a little too whiny for my taste, and gives up too quick when Arthur shows a stubborn moment. I wanted Leopold to show some backbone. There is some drama, but it’s all small stuff. This felt like the first five chapters of a book to me, I wanted more external drama or something.
I have read this one before, and the next in the series as well, but not for some time. I’m looking forward to reading the next one again, and the new one out soon. I liked this one, it’s a good beginning to a series. Ava March is my go to author for regency romance novels, most with a bit of BDSM or at least kink, this one is good but a little light for me. Still well worth the time to read, especially if you consider it as the prelude to a series.
